I thought tonight's game was the perfect illustration of one team showing (albeit very rusty) while another didn't look switched on. That isn't taking anything away from the Broncos, but the Roosters attitude was poor and made life easy for the hosts. When you concede tries like the McCullough try from dummy half, the Thaiday try or even Sims at a crucial moment it speaks volumes.
For Brisbane, this win was long due. While they were deserved losers against the Cowboys, Storm & Bulldogs, they've been better than a lot of other 2-3 sides this year and there seemed to be this sense heading into the game they'd lift for this. While it wasn't pretty, what we saw tonight was the difference Milford has on the side when he's on and this was easily his best performance since the Elimination Final against the Gold Coast Titans.
I thought McCullough was a deserved MotM pick. I don't think he'll ever be among the elite dummy halves in the competition, but whenever he asserts himself Brisbane look like a much better outfit and he allows the players around him to shine. Once again, I thought the forwards were strong tonight for Brisbane and the likes of Pangai Jr and Ese'ese are starting to make names for themselves as NRL players.
As bad as Sydney's attitude was tonight, they can take some solace that at 20-8, if Gordon had have done anything but what he did, it's 20-14 (three tries a piece) and they've got the Broncos feeling nervous. After finishing 15th last season, they're a work in progress and they were due for a reality check after a flattering start to the season. I still like they're style of play and think they'll be there abouts but they were very lazy tonight.
