Yeah qualifying is much easier now. Or at least it should be.

If they extend the amount of teams in World cup it will be almost impossible not too qualify.

Soccer has gone backwards in aus since th A league. It was meant to improve it but they have taken the European coaches out of the game. The NSL had european coaches or extremely passionate people in the clubs and players would move to Europe at as younger age. Now they are hanging around in the A league developing bad habits and not taking there game to the next level untill older.
Plus the AIS is gone which produced so many stars.

There are five European coaches in the A-League, six if you include Scotsman Ernie Merrick (though he has no European coaching experience).

Our best juniors still move to Europe early on. From the current squad of 25, 17 currently play in Europe and only three have never played in Europe. Listed below is the age at which each squad member first signed with a European club. Further, only four of them currently play for an A-League club, while another four have never played in the A-League.

1. Ryan joined Club Brugge at 21
2. Degenek joined VfB Stuttgart at 18
3. Gersbach joined Rosenborg at 19
4. Cahill joined Millwall at 18
5. Jeggo joined Sturm Graz at 24
6. Jurman has never played in Europe
7. Risdon has never played in Europe
8. Wright joined Preston North End at 17
9. Juric joined Trnje at 17
10. Kruse joined Fortuna Düsseldorf at 23
11. Goodwin joined Sparta Rotterdam at 25
12. Langerak joined Borussia Dortmund at 22
13. Mooy joined Bolton Wanderers at 16
14. Troisi joined Gençlerbirliği at 20
15. Jedinak joined Varaždin at 19
16. Behich joined Bursaspor at 23
17. Rukavytsya joined FC Twente at 22
18. Vukovic joined Konyaspor at 25
19. McGowan joined Hearts at 17
20. Sainsbury joined PEC Zwolle at 22
21. Luongo joined Tottenham at 19
22. Irvine joined Celtic at 17
23. Rogic joined Celtic at 21
-- Leckie joined Borussia Mönchengladbach at 20
-- Milligan has never played in Europe
Now they are hanging around in the A league developing bad habits and not taking there game to the next level untill older.
If they were good enough they would be recruited by European clubs. As you can see, plenty of them still are. Meanwhile the quality of the A-League continues to improve. Smarter recruiting of foreigners has really helped here.
Plus the AIS is gone which produced so many stars.
This is probably the biggest issue. The Australian government (at a variety of levels) used to invest much more heavily in children's sport. But voters are making more demands on public money and unfortunately much more of it is going to healthcare these days.

I haven't watched much of the world cup.
The passion in PNG team impressed me. And Tonga vs NZ was great too watch.
Would be nice to see a Tonga vs Aus final.
Terepo has played very well.
