I can't believe people are getting worked up about the Commonwealth games - there was only 2 bids, Gold Coast, and a town of 30,000 people in Sri Lanka...

Its a nothing event, and the best athletes don't bother turning up in some events, going instead to European Athletics championships and such.

Australia is the only country that gives a sh!t.

I didn't even know there was a bid for these games until this thread.

Sounds like a huge event these days lol.

Brisbane in 82 was great, but times have changed since then.

So much competition to host it lol

Time for the Rugby League powers that be to come up with a plan for 2011 - 2018 as a build up to a RL7's/RL9's CG event.

The return of the World 7's is a no brainer. Also comps can be tagged onto the end of other full 13 international comps in various places across the globe (European 7's/9's, Pacific 7's/9's etc)

Congratulations to Queensland and the Gold Coast, and thank goodness the AFL was willing to subsidise the refurbishment of Carrara.
