Correct, 142k tickets to 7 events, average just over 20k per event. The NRL and clubs only care about total tickets sold. We sold 142,000 tickets for the opening round. Everyone should at least agree on that!
Doubt it. It’s a pain in the hole to get from the cbd to the footy stadium. Gridlock out the ass
People may have put their money towards commonwealth games tickets instead.
It's just a different mentality on the GC - no one cares that goes for the Suns too - other things to do. It is a mix of QLDers, ex pats from other states and foreigners. Even Broncs v GC isn't an automatic sell-out at CBUS which it should be every time. I wish it was QLD's version of Newcastle but it's not. That is probably more Townsville.

How much were the tickets for Perth?
I would’ve thought they’d be cheaper than attending 2 seperate games. Therein lies the rub.

There has to be genuine concern about the future of the GC.
To me this ownership is the last role of the dice, if it fails the NRL should look at alternatives.
Not to mention those behind the camera not looking into the sunA lot of people left the Penrith game before kick off due to the heat. Ambulances came and picked up a fair few who had fainted. These people would've had their ticket scanned.
There were also others watching from under the grandstand to stay in the shade.
It would look like we were conceding to the afl, a solution might be to halve their games at robins, and have them travel qld playing in regional areas. kinda like how they are doing it this year in Toowoomba and Gladstone, only six games not two. Provide a bit of scarcity at the Gold Coast (and try for a better deal out of stadiums qld), and if fans still don’t show up then take them out and nuke the place from orbit. Only way to be sure.Although I want a team on the GC, it's hard to argue with what you are saying. The only real reason that they are there at the moment is to not give the AFL a 'free-kick'
They will come back when the team is a genuine contender, they need success, and it will come if the club can finally get some stability. It's just a different mentality on the GC - no one cares that goes for the Suns too - other things to do. Thinking more of the non car crowd. The ones that now do pu lic transport or walk from the CBD.

Could be a solution. I think the Suns will eventually fall on their arse too, either that or the AFL poor millions and millions into them year after year. GC is just not a sporting town. AFL (Brisbane (lol) Bears), RL (Seagulls, Giants, Chargers), NBL (Blaze, Cougars, Rollers) and Soccer (GC United) have all had clubs fold there.
What is the upside for the AFL? The Suns win a premiership? Or create a dynasty of success? The max crowds they can get at their stadium is 25k (hardly ground breaking compared to Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth clubs) and the slight increase in TV ratings that tune in because of the success won't really make a dent in their average so even the absolute upside is still not that appealing. Maybe both the NRL and AFL are just being stubborn by persisting. I know if given the choice I would prefer Brisbane 2 in the NRL over Gold Coast.
I think you’ve hit the nail there, if the nrl had their time over again they would throw in another Brisbane teamMaybe both the NRL and AFL are just being stubborn by persisting. I know if given the choice I would prefer Brisbane 2 in the NRL over Gold Coast.
