That's been a problem with our game for a while.

I mean they go on about how we need to help the International game by improving another nations and playing more matches with the 'big 3', but how are people going to attend games where the media continually puts the International game down and the people in charge seem like they dont do enough to promote the game.

I mean it wouldve been around May and June, where end of year tests used to be planned, no-one had any idea of when or if Australia and New Zealand were supposed to play, and was all about the NZ vs Eng game in Denver. And also we heard nothing about the Kangaroos of how many games they were to play.

Thank god for Tonga and PNG last year, otherwise crowds in the last World Cup wouldve been embarrassing.

We chop and change too much which is the fault of the RLIF, ARLC, RFL and NZRL primarily. We canned the successful ashes tours and replaced them with the Tri-Nations and later the four nations, just as that started to gain some traction and respect as a brand, we canned it and now we are going back to tours..... we think. We need to stick with something and back it long-term otherwise the game will continue to be considered a joke by the media and general public. We still don't have a set international calendar FFS. We still don't know which tournament will replace the four nations, we still don't know if there will be a regular 9's world cup and we still don't have a Pacific Cup.

We are in the position we are in because of the admin. RL is by far the biggest thing holding RL back and does so much more than Union holds us back.

The four year calendar should be set at the time of the last World Cup. 2022-2025 should already have plans in place. There shouldn't be any of this last minute organising tests.

There is plenty of room in the calendar for Kangaroo/Kiwi/Lions Tours, Four Nations (or expanded comps like the Confederations Cup they talked about), regional comps like the European Cup and Pacific Cup (which can include the Big 3), RLWC qualifiers and possible tours from Tier 2 nations.

If we knew there would be Ashes series in 2019, 2023, 2027 for example we could build on that. We don't even know if the supposed Lions Tour will even come to Australia next year.

Who’d have thought we’d see the day when Tonga drew a bigger crowd in Auckland than the kiwis? Just shows what can happen when you create a little bit of hype around the international game.

Just shows you what one great man can do.
Well done Andrew Fifita.
An absolute visionary.
A GF final winning legend from the sharks.

Told them to stick their SOO up their arse and in doing so has created the new ultimate international team.

5,144 at Leigh Sports Village for England v France this morning. About 3k less than the number who watched the same two nations at the same venue in 2015.

Did they play that fixture on the weekend or during the week as well?
Interesting to see how these three tests will go attendance wise, especially Anfield.

No I can't take credit for it, but agree with you it shows well the longer term impact (if any) of major shocks or events like that and others like stadiums or team changes.

We really should plot it against Australian population growth index to see if game is growing with "market" as whole, being the whole populace.

Not even close, at least in the last decade. Australia's population growth is a steady increase of 1.5-2% per year (or a total population growth of around 18% in last decade). NRLs crowd growth has been, well nothing, it has declined in last decade or so from 16k in 2009 to 15k this year.

Population growth 18%
NRL decline 5%

How about over 50 yrs?

1960 population was abt 10.3M and now abt 24.8M according to quick Google search so 141% growth.
The RL growth over that time is abt 263% (from 0.8M to abt 2.9M)

So that looks healthy

From 1990?
1990 population was abt 17.1M so growth to now is abt 45%
RL growth is abt 45% as well (from 2M to 2.9M)

Ok so on track as well but not ahead of population as per before

From 2000?
1990 population was 19.15M so growth to now is abt 30%
RL growth is abt 12% (from 2.6M to 2.9M)

So not so great at all.

To look at this further as it relates to nature of Australia's population growth which in in recent decades a lot has come from immigration (using this data; https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/abou...-in-australia/historical-migration-statistics)

In 1960;
- 91% of immigrants were from Europe
- 3% of immigrants were from Asia

In 1990;
- 26% of immigrants were from Europe
- 50% of immigrants were from Asia

In 2000;
- 19% of immigrants were from Europe
- 38% of immigrants were from Asia
(19% of immigrants came from NZ alone this year)

So yes immigration has changed but that just means adapting to a more cosmopolitan populace who has more options for the entertainment dollars all over the world, and doesn't have a pre-conceived loyalty to what is already big and exists.

For anyone who says that the crowd doesn’t improve the TV experience I suggest watching that game. What an awesome crowd. Hope they’ve organised for Tonga to play more games next year.
Anyone who thinks crowd doesn't improve tv experience flat out needs their head checked.

Awesome crowd. Why didnt the organisers put in extra seating when it sold out so easily? Tonga vs England reached 30,003 due to the extra stands
