Best guess would be because he only turn up half the time.

When he’s on, he’s brilliant and I would argue there aren’t many better. When he’s not, he’s barely first grade quality.

This is identical to the 2013 GF penalty try. There was no sin binning on that occassion too so i think that is the correct decision.

I don't know the rule but to me it's either a penalty try or a sin bin - both would be way too harsh.

There is no rule that states it must be one or the other. It’s just a common interpretation by most referee organisations that if a penalty try is awarded, that nullifies the professional foul/sin bin.

IMO it’s a good rule, as a try AND sin bin is too much IMO. It’s also why I think most sin bins should actually end the moment a try is scored as well, like a penalty in ice hockey

Yeah they changed it this year to make it easier to award a penalty try. First time it has been tested.
