BILLY Slater is racing the clock for Round One.

A notable absentee for Friday’s testimonial match for Cameron Smith and Johnathan Thurston, foxsports.com.auunderstands there’s a consideration to rest Slater for their season opener against the Bulldogs in Perth.

After landing awkwardly on his shoulder in last Friday’s World Club Challenge, the champion fullback was sent for precautionary scans.

Word out of the club is a ‘jarred shoulder’ but should Slater to continue to experience any soreness or discomfort; he won’t be hurried back to the field.

Don’t expect a massive improvement to the dogs attack against the stingiest defence in recent history. Might still happen but not this weekend. Storm by 12

I reckon the loss of Cronk, Slater and McLean could play into our hands.

Storm too good. Although it may be a close one with Slater out and Melbourne having to resort to their 3rd option for fullback
