We literally had a different shade of green every year for the first 20 years of our existence, and we’ve changed it every few years since then as well. So frankly the club has never had a “traditional” shade of green.

The whole reason that we are the shade of green that we are this year is because they are celebrating the 30th anniversary since 89 by wearing the same shade of green as was used in 89.

But the problem isn’t the Raiders anyway, it’s that the Rabbits don’t have an away or alternate jersey that contrasts with their home jersey like they are supposed to.

Is it the change in material used? Because the shade of green from those '89 jerseys still appears lighter than the one they're currently using:

The green on Souths jerseys and the green on the Raiders jerseys looked virtually identical last night, while for comparison here's Souths 30 years ago. The difference in the two can't be purely down to the lighting:

I'm not suggesting the NRL step in and mandate Canberra wear a particular shade of green, no more than they should step in and make Parra revert to their traditional shade of blue over the navy blue that's exactly like the Cowboys and Roosters.

But that brighter lime green has traditionally been the Raiders green, it was uniquely theirs like purple has become synonymous with the filth. From a branding perspective going to a more medium green this season was a bad move- because as it stands the Raiders have the worst sponsor placement in the NRL. Literally every jersey sponsor clashes with the jersey and is a complete eyesore.
@The Great Dane has saved me most of a response, but I'll add that the current green has a bit more blue to it in certain lighting conditions.

I'd prefer were went with the shade of green from 94 which is between the two. Last year's jersey was too yellow, and we always struggle to match the sock colour when we go lighter.

Agreed. That mid 90's green (when Canterbury made their gear) is the ideal green. The heritage jerseys they wore in 2001 against Parra and again in 2008 almost looked like a greeny yellow than a lime green.

That looks like lighting is having an effect. Look at the difference in skin tones - Raiders are in full sun and South's aren't (and/or the image had faded like an old Chinese menu)

I've got the 2008 one and it's yellow, for all intents and purposes.

So can we pretty much determine that Canberra will wear their home jersey next week regardless of who wins tonight. Although, If its the Roosters, would Canberra wear green shorts?

Not tryna be a smart arse but isn't old mate in the commentary box going "Canberra with the ball now" enough to know which teams which?
Works on the radio, and wasn't a clash for 400 years...
I wouldn't trust some commentators to even get that right. Doesn't factor in stadium audiences either.

More seriously...for those of us with good vision, proper contrasting uniforms make games marginally easier to follow (and make games more accessible for those who are impaired).

For example, if a break in play happens, you can see which team is in support without breaking focus on where the ball is. Likewise, if there's a mess of players scrambling a tight space, it can be easier to see who's touched the ball or whether the ball carrier has scored/ gone into touch/etc... Some of these benefits carry over to the players as well.

Exactly, the one where there is a break is what usually catches me out, in a game like last night I can not easily determine is a player running after a break is in support or a defender chasing down the break. This breaks my attention away from the game. It may not sound like a big thing but it is a situation that is easily avoided!

No matter what all 3 teams left will wear their full home strip in the grand final (Canberra white shorts included)

Just watching the Fox pre-game, they’re showing highlights from Easts v Souths (assume first week semi). Souths decided to wear the white shorts (away strip) in that game despite the Roosters white shorts, and the Souths black being the “smarter” choice.

Canberra shouldn’t need to alter anything. Raiders home jersey contrast is probably the best in the NRL compared to all other teams.

The sooner we get to “Home” and “Clash only” jerseys the better. Won’t happen because of the theory of merchandising opportunities, but as a Knights supporter I hate their away strip and white shorts combo. Blue shorts would resemble Newcastle, white shorts looks exactly like St George on TV. A clash maybe required against the Roosters and few else. And as far as the revenue from extra sales, I can’t say I have seen any of them being worn around town, certainly compared to the main strip.

Conversely, some clubs manage to provide decent alternatives. I do like the Bulldogs reversed strip, but they were guilty of unnecessary overuse at the backend of the season. Penrith can get the white right at times. And the Roosters don’t over expose their white jersey. All these clash uniforms still seem to identify the club well.

Another year, another gone hope of grand final patches. Will mostly likely just be match info stitching as per every other event this year.

*Edit: just realised I posted this to the wrong thread*

The AFL GF logo is actually part of the jersey is it not? Not even a patch, and regardless of the jersey manufactuer

How do they get 2 whole teams worth of jerseys made when we in such short notice? Especially when we can't even get a couple of patches?
