Remember when we used to joke that this was Souffs’ grand final?

f**k.

Things aren’t helped by the..,ahem...”coaching” and apathy emanating from the club. Pride in performance is a foreign concept and has been one for the past 8 years*.

*Soon to be nine.

I would like to see a rejuvenated backline for this match with the likes of Aitken, Dufty and Lafai on the extended bench. Aitken and Lafai will be and should be let go at the end of the season unless they can work their way in to first grade

So what's everyone's thoughts on the captains challenge ?
I think it’s tinkering with a broken system. And won’t resolve anything.

I think that the NRL needs to stop believing that they will ever find a way to get every call correct.

I can accept a bad call from the refs. I’ll get riled up about it, but that’s part of the tribalism of being a league fan.

What’s far worse is watching repeated replays and having a call made that is either contentious or just plain wrong. Piss off the video ref completely. Let the refs make the call. I can accept human error.

Go on then, show a photo of an Illawarra Steelers premiership as a stand alone club.

I’ll wait.

Crap. I'm dreading this new rule, the games already becoming an f*ing circus. More stoppages and Why ? Because no-one has faith in the officials despite the fact we've gone from 1 ref and 2 linespeople to now having 2 refs, 2 linespeople and the bunker. Now we'll have 2 more - the captains.
This is what happens when the media has too much influence over the game and they and others simply can't accept the refs decisions. Refs make mistakes, always have done , always will, accept it, move on.
A few years from now we'll probably have the fans voting on decisions on twitter or some sh*t.

Go back to one ref and only use the bunker to check tries and possibly foul play.

The game is already too slow as far as decision making goes and this will make it even worse. Cam Smith will find ways beyond our belief to use this when his team is gassed and under the pump with a few minutes on the clock

For the record the replay system when used should be in real time, once only and able to rule on all aspects including forward passes.
Instead of one person it should be 3 and the majority vote wins.

Blow the whistle and move on and stop showing the 25 different camera angles in frame by frame slow motion as that just creates more confusion and angst.

I agree. The thing I find really frustrating as a fan is when your team scores a length of the field try that goes through 10 sets of hands and instead of celebrating when the ball gets put down for a try you have this uneasy feeling that they will take it off you. Then you wait 5 minutes biting your nails whilst they look for any reason to disallow the try. It messes with the flow of the game.

A hundred percent agree.

And a captains call could be even worse. Where you have the try given, and then taken away.

Our grand final team had a lot of Illawarra /south coast players. Probably came through the Steelers ranks. Off the top of my head, coops is Shellharbour, same with merrin, prior is Thirroul, weyman is south coast, Ben creagh was a gong boy, dean young was dapto, ben Hornby corrimal, Morris gerringong, All Illawarra/south coast boys.

Can’t wait to see how many challenges Cam Smith and DCE from Manly, games might last 80 minutes in either the first and second half
