If they had a column for Asquith then you wouldnt be able to add it up anyway.
28 to 4? Your maths needs some work champ - the 2nd half was 8all at the time of the send off.
Move on.

Sorry Panteneman maybe Nswrl award 1 points to the Asquith for the 8all score before the send offs. Confirmed via Terry Dosens 26-8 to St Mary 2nd half.

Apparently if the season starts this year St marys are going to roll out local A graders because they can’t afford to pay RMC players due to lack of funds with their leagues club shut n no pokie money :joy:

That is strange, they are small fish compared to Mounties or Canterbury Leagues, but they did have $13.5 million in the bank at June 2019, and adding about $300,000 per month until they stopped trading..

Highly doubt that you would find player payments would be a small percentage of club costs if any clubs were going to struggle it would be the ones with smaller leagues clubs in saying that all teams should be fine

I checked the annual reports of Mounties, Canterbury, Parramatta and Penrith and St Mary's cash position is similar to Mounties and stronger than the 3 NRL clubs.

Mounties is a behemoth generating a cash operating surplus of $80 million in 2019 (over $100 million the previous year) but the empire expands every year with $72 million spent on residential estates and other assets so they had about $14 million in cash.

Parramatta generates a cash operating surplus of about $11 million per annum but put $9.5 million into new assets/club extensions so had $7.5 million in cash.

Canterbury also generates a cash operating surplus of $11 million but took out a big loan to finance $40 million of club extensions in the previous year. The loan repayments of $8 million and a further spend of $5 million meant cash at bank fell to only $4 million.

Panthers had an operating surplus of $13.5 million but had investments of $16 million in the year, so cash fell to less than $11 million.

St Marys has the smallest operation of these 5 clubs with a $7.5 million surplus but only invests $4 million so cash increases by $3.5 million per annum.

There was a post on the NRL website on 17 April stating that the NSWRL was aiming to restart the comps in July as the public health order to limit gatherings to 2 people does not expire until 29 June.

It stated that it was unlikely that the RMC would provide an avenue for fringe NRL players to get a game given the strict biosecurity provisions that will apply to top 30 squads if/when the NRL is restarted, and that it is unlikely that the Silktails will be able to participate due to border issues.

The New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) Board today established a plan to work towards a re-start of Rugby League activities from July 2020 to coincide with a common return date for some other winter sports across the state and the commencement of term 3 in the school year.

NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said the decision to work towards a shortened Community Rugby League season and a re-start of other abbreviated senior competitions from 18 July 2020 will be further reviewed and confirmed on 1 June 2020 subject to the existing Government advice available at the time.

Trodden said today’s decision took into consideration the NSW Public Health (COVID-19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order 2020 which is currently preventing sport from being conducted and expires at midnight on 29 June 2020 (unless further extended).

“Accordingly, the earliest possible return date is 30 June 2020, unless the NSW Government decides to lift the Public Health order earlier,” Trodden said.

“Most winter sports favour working towards a return date of 18 July 2020, at the end of the next school holiday period, with a return to training on 1 July 2020, subject to the status of the public health in the interim.

“The Board and Management of NSWRL have been continuing to closely monitor developments with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to strictly follow the Government advice so that we will only return to playing footy when it is deemed safe to do so.

“The NSWRL and everyone in our Rugby League community need to be responsive to the continual changes to the Government advice around risks to public health for the broader community, and if it becomes apparent that a July start date is not feasible, we will adjust and reassess.”

The decision to work towards starting Rugby League competitions from 18 July 2020, and to resume training from 1 July 2020, applies to the following:

  • Community Football, involving more than 100,000 boys, girls, men and women across the state to commence. The 2020 season was originally due to commence 4 April when it was postponed in March. All Clubs and Leagues are encouraged to continue to take registrations beyond the traditional 30 June registration cut-off date.
  • Ron Massey Cup, Sydney Shield and Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership to resume. One round had been played when the competitions were suspended on 27 March.

In relation to the nine competitions cancelled by the NSWRL Board on 27 March, the Board has today determined that no premiers and no player of the series awards will be declared for any of those competitions for 2020. This applies to the following:

  • Major competitions: Canterbury Cup NSW, Jersey Flegg Cup, Women’s Country Championships and Men’s Under 23s Country Championships
  • Junior Representative competitions: SG Ball Cup, Tarsha Gale Cup, Harold Matthews Cup, Andrew Johns Cup and Laurie Daley Cup.

I have heard some murmurings that some clubs may not want to field teams due to costs and leagues clubs being closed.
I know its similar to gunawin's joke but this isn't. I hope its not the case but it does cost run to a decent side and alot of these clubs are reliant on leagues club money

Would be interesting to see how many players decide to pull the pin if their match payments are dramatically cut or they're asked to play for free.

The players are not doing it for the right reasons if it’s only about money for them.
I wouldn’t think that the clubs would expect them to play for free, but they might have to wait to get paid until their leagues club is making money again. I’m mainly referring to the smaller clubs like Windsor for example.

I was taking the piss about st marys because they are a big club that does well financially. But they will still be hurting with their club closed.
But from a footy point of view, they get quite a few sent back from penriff every week that they don’t have to pay. Also they pay their SS players peanuts. And to add to that any players that want to be released they fleece them and charge them full retail price for the training gear, even if they’ve been at the club for say 7-8 months (which last season was $520). So basically it’s not that costly for st marys to run 2 teams.
I agree some smaller clubs will find it tougher.

I think you'll be surprised. The younger players would probably do it for the love but when you've got older players putting their bodies through the wars, travelling and spending time away from their families each week, that match payment is a massive incentive.

Take a guy like Brendan Waters for example. He sure as shit knows he won't be winning a Premiership at Windsor this year. Would he be willing to rock up to work sore and sorry ever Monday if Windsor can barely pay him? I'd be guessing he wouldn't.

Yep you could be right in the case of older blokes, but you still have to love playing because as you point out its a tough sport on bodies and there are other ways to make money.
