Not the most pretty All Stars game I've seen, the conditions certainly played their part and it was a pretty gritty game. However, I still found it to be extremely entertaining an it ended up being a thrilling contest! In the end finishing in a 10 all draw. That's kind of fitting for the All Stars game in a way as it means culture and Rugby League are the real winners.
Our boys did pretty well. Benji was incredible for the Maori side, one of their best I thought. A beautiful passing game which lead to a try assist off a great ball and he threw plenty of other threatening passes as well. His kicking game was also inch perfect with a few of his short kicks almost leading to kicks.
Cody had a good game but to be fair he didn't really get a lot of freedom or opportunity. The players around him (aside from Latrell) looked a bit out of sync with him (understandable as they only would've had a few sessions together) which made his job a lot harder. Despite this, he put on some really nice plays during the game and created a few chances that others weren't able to finish off. Struggled with cramp towards the end of the match but that's no biggy. Not a bad hit out for Cody.
Because of the nature of the game, Latrell had limited opportunities as well but he made the most of what he had and looked pretty dangerous at times. There were a few plays down the left in particualr that he showed some freakish skill, including setting up a fantastic try for AJ. On another note, he looks a hell of a lot more fit than this time last year which is awesome!
AJ had limited opportunies as well which meant his impact on the game wasn't as great as what it is at Souths. Had a few good takes in the air, including a great try-saver in the first half, and re-gathered a Mitchell kick for a try.
All in all, loved tonight! a great show of culture. Well done to both sides.
