Article i read, phil gould and gal expressing bewilderment at the state of affairs at our club, how 3 top line players are allowed to leave without a whimper and no replacements on the horizon, the problem that none of the youngsters have been given game time to adapt and get some experience, gould says why is the cap in this state, and he says not giving players more than a year will bit us in the arse big time i say it again, our biggest mistake was not replacing Richo, our outside recruitment is substandard.
We are in for a world of pain next year, its a sad state of affairs

How does Gus know what our cap is?
He dosent have to know, all can see what is happening, all wonder why we let our captain and game winner go because of 1 extra year,he says he dosent know what players are being paid but questions how its become this way when we let 3 main players go and are not active trying to replace them and everyone questions whats going to happen to them at 30, and opt not to come

FFS shut up!!!
The club knows what they’re doing
The two main players that are leaving are both 30 odd, we have plenty of young players training full time with first grade, the young players entering first grade have much more confidence & front these days, they slot in seamlessly
We don’t need to recruit excessively from outside, what makes a player from outside our system better than one within it? We’ve brought players into the system long term for a reason, invested time & money into them, unless they are obviously below par it’s time to use them, they aren’t contracted not to play first grade at some point
I know some of you get a warm fuzzy, tingly feeling & even an endorphin rush when the club spends money to bring new faces in but it’s bad business if you don’t necessarily need them

No need for the beginning of your post!! What you say is fundumentally ok but, we havent blooded these players so initially asking them to step up to an acceptable level may not work. Look at dearden, and there are others that take time,we are essentially throwing them in the deep end.
Your view would stand up better if they had some game time, and yes some of us do get anxious and worried and normally id agree with your assesment of the club knowing what they are doing, but now i question that, knowing how the caps been mismanaged and not giving at least 2 year deals forcing players out,how does this help recruitment? It dosent, not at all,we have shot ourselves in the foot, and u swearing wont help

you don’t know that the cap has been mismanaged, you, nor Gould or anyone else outside the club wouldn’t have a clue, we had a hit obviously with Sam & Inglis, which may not even be on the cap, but you’d struggle to find a club that hasn’t discarded a player & is paying some freight for his contract at another club, as far as I know we’re going ok, we just had 6 origin players & two training with the NSW squad, that’s eight elite players, why wouldn’t we have to slim that down? You blokes & everyone else bags the roosters for rorting the cap but if I wasn’t a Souths supporter I’d be pointing fingers at us, it’s only natural we have to get rid of highly paid players that are at the end of their careers
Like I said, players these days seamlessly step up, the coaching staff know who these players are, they know them very well, they work with them daily, they know their strengths & weaknesses, it’s no good supporters sitting back speculating, trust the people that know these kids
We have 3 of the best young front rowers in the country coming through, two junior rep halves, plenty of outside backs & backrowers, these kids won’t hang around these days, if we don’t give them an opportunity we lose a ten year player for a bloke that might last two

Dearden would probably be a match winner with Mitchell & Walker around him.
The Broncos are a shambles, I wish Reynolds good luck cause, he will need it there.

It's starting to look that way but there might be a quality young'un out there somewhere.

We have a couple of young guys coming through in Karapani and Kalokalo but not sure they will be NRL ready for next year
If we want to bring someone in that won’t cost a fortune the Raiders have Harley Smith Shield playing this weekend. He will probably be given Crokers spot next year but hasn’t been signed yet.

Phil Gould's massive question mark over South Sydney Rabbitohs' salary cap situation: https://www.msn.com/en-au/sport/new...ney-rabbitohs-salary-cap-situation/ar-AAN7VUT

From Fox Sports,

BENJI WEIGHS UP RUGBY LEAGUE FUTURE

Benji Marshall has signalled that his time in the NRL may be coming to an end, with the Kiwi international hoping to go out a premiership winner.

Joining Fox League’s NRL 360 panel, Marshall said he’s enjoying his time as a bench utility player for South Sydney.

“I feel great, my role at South Sydney is one that I really enjoy. Don’t have to play 80 minutes each week, I come on and could be in any position,” Marshall said on NRL 360.

“On the weekend, I came on at centre and that play we put on was a Ben Hornby special, so I can’t claim it, it was something he wanted us to put on.

“Reyno (Adam Reynolds) actually called it so he’s claiming it as well. I just had to kick it.”

Asked if he would be joining another club following the conclusion the 2021 season, the 35-year-old veteran admitted he hadn’t decided yet.

“I actually feel okay at the moment but there’s still a few weeks to go and no one’s really rang up and asked me,” he said.

“So when there’s not options, there’s no options.

“But I feel okay, I’ll probably decide at the end of the season.”

Marshall has played 339 Premiership games across all participated clubs, which include the Wests Tigers, Dragons, Broncos and South Sydney.

The 2005 premiership winner moved to South Sydney for the 2021 season after the Tigers chose not to renew his contract for another year.

He’s since played 15 games for the Bunnies, scoring three tries.

Marshall revealed if he didn’t get a phone call in the next few weeks, his time in the NRL may come to a close.

“I don’t think I’ll be on the phone this time,” Marshall said.

“I’ve come to South Sydney this season to hopefully finish on a premiership. If it does go that way that’ll be great but… if the body feels okay I might still play but honestly I don’t know at the moment.

“I just feel lucky I’m with a good side that’s in a good position to make a good run at the premiership.

“And there’s still a few weeks to go but we’ll be doing everything we can to get there.”
