Surprised foxtel hasnt dropped more as people abandon the outdated expensive satellite service to pick up streaming.

I’ve kinda lost interest in following the ratings because we no longer get the full picture and with every passing year that will only become more true. Makes it hard to know what to make of the figures.

There are more Super League games than normal being broadcast this weekend. It will be interesting to see how Hull FC v Huddersfield rates at 10pm on Sunday night for Fox League.

Until they give greater emphasis ( 'seats') to Sydney by including Newcastle ( like they include Geelong) in Melborne ) and also acount for 1/4 extra population the rating won't reflect to true honest numbers, which if these and other changes to ( reflect true population numbers ) the five capital cites market would make Rugby League, NRL the highest rating sport in Australia. Yes we know that. The 'gap can not only be closed but increased to NRL by 'correctly' gauging the numbers of popultion and then weighting that population into a model. Quick calculations I did, on numbers inline with census numbers and it went something like this would be correct. Syd/New 35% Melb/Geelong 30% Qld/SEQ 16% Wa/Perth 12% SA Adekilade 7% = 100%. So when weighted ( I could have put in Wollongong/Illawarra also with 300+ pop) So when you do the New improved and proper rating to relect actual numbers and geography NRL will be higher. With the inclusion of the Hunter/Newcastle MAD rugby league supporters as well as the coalfields populations ( coalmining and Rugby league go together) NRL is tops, anyway way you want to cut it. We then out rate the AFL Fact

not as simple as that. Newcastle area population represents about 15% of regional population of nsw and queensland. if you look at nrl regional tv audience it’s usually around 250k. 15% of 250k, all things being equal in regional viewing, adds around 35k to the metro viewing audience for fta games. No where near enough to close the 150k gap on afl metro numbers.

adding Newcastle region to Sydney metro would certainly help but only way we close that gap is either RL in sydney becomes a lot more popular or we get proper national and build tv audiences in Vic, wa and sa. Look at opening game when Storm where on main fta channel in melbourne, nrl ratings were significantly up because if it.

yes it is simple as that. Both the 5 metro and regional DO NOT reflect the true populations numbers . Equal weighting to Melbourne with Sydney is a farce. Provable by census data. Look at the site ABS. The regional date is low also. So BOTH are incorrect. Maybe Nine should not pay or withdraw funding for this data ( Neilson) Until they update their methodology, maybe you can Ten Tv to play along for the ride, after all the ABC is beating them nowadays, so any change would be beneficial and probably reduce costs also, as they could concentrate on the QLD, NSW markets with over 50% of the population with HQ's in Sydney with the number 1 rating cites Brisbane and Sydney providing the winning edge. Fact again.

youve totally ignored that the Newcastle region only accounts for around 15% of the nrls regional audience lol. So take the 250k regional audience and apply the Newcastle population to it and you are still a bus ride out from the afl
metro ratings, you claimed that adding Newcastle would give nrl larger metro ratings than afl, that’s simply incorrect.

Does Ch9 broadcast into Newcastle region or is it WIN?

NBN does Northern NSW
Southern Cross does Southern NSW at the moment (SC replaced Win)

Not all regional viewers are counted in the ratings. Shame because they seem to be the most hard core viewers with large regional areas. There are as many regional viewers in Qld as there are viewers in Brisbane.

I wonder if the drop off from peak to avg is greater this year with the lack of close games? I know there's been plenty of games Ive turned off at the 60 min mark.
