Main concerns with expansion are:

- NRL becomes a bit too broad and less tribal, much like the S18 expansion. Some differences with closer nations though. PNG away trips will be amazing for clubs.
- Quality of games, which again a feature of the S18 expansion. With the Bears competing in NSW Cup it should assist much like it has for the Dolphins with Redclifee in the QRL but they'll need to start building juniors in WA ASAP and if the Force fold it may help.

Personally, PNG and Perth are genuine expansion options, so I agree with them. But other areas are ripe for it like Christchurch which would be a genuine expansion, along with an area like Adelaide. Ipswich is a must at some point and your expect Central Coast too, but they're both safe options.
Can’t compare union and nrl expansion

even in nz it’s a very small market

Bears on their own are a super power, add that into the mix with a new state and Vegas 4 and you’re sitting pretty as the nrl. The nrl will get so much positive out of the story that they will be sold out at NSYD forever. If you dont know the area you wouldn’t understand how big this move is. Many, many multinationals are based out of Nth sydney, add Perth mining to the mix and I honestly think their jersey becomes the highest valued jersey in the country across codes.

Nrl will raid and continue to raid nz and pacific for everything. And they’ll have enough for 22 teams. The 20th team has to be nz 2.

nrl needs to buy out Europe to not just own the competition but own the tv. Foxtel is now playing 2 games 1130pm and 130am, let’s move it to 930-10pm and 10-12 and 2-4am. $$$ people - and lots of it,

Abdo never said said it was cash revenue.

"The total package in 2023, according to NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo, will be “over $400 million”, meaning V’Landys’ secret pay TV deal with Foxtel is worth approximately $300 million a year. That is consistent with the general formula that pay TV deals are generally twice those of FTA TV."

"Revenues returned to over $550 million and we have secured long term broadcast agreements which will see broadcast investment increase to over $400 million a year from 2023," Abdo said.

From 2023 television broadcast agreements will exceed $400 million per annum being the most in the game’s history.
(2021 Financial Results)

“2021 was an incredibly strong year for the growth of our game. Revenues returned to over $550 million and we have secured long term broadcast agreements which will see broadcast investment increase to over $400 million a year from 2023,’’ Abdo said.

Contra is counted as an expense though. Not income.

Disagree. 3 countries became 5. Japan and Argentina weren't the heaving fanatics that PNG are. But the quality diminished, undoubtedly.
I doubt the quality was there in the first place.

PNG, NZ and Australia are relatively close and in 3 close timezones 4 hours apart, similar to the continental US. You schedule it well enough a team might go to Townsville or Port Moresby once a year rather than both. Auckland or Christchurch but not both. That cuts down on expense and travel.

Whereas Super Rugby was playing in 4 different continents 12+ hours apart in a patchwork comp.
