Well that's weird, 1 Roosters player, the undefeated premiers, in the team.
I know they might get some in the QLD side, but that's pretty ordinary and to me it smacks a big FU from the new coach to the previous coach.

I am interested in your view as to whether the U21 competition should revert to a short season like the other junior rep competitions? The reason I ask is that apart from the Penrith competition there is now virtually nothing between U18's and open age in Sydney Jnr comps.

65 years ago there were 95 U21 teams playing in Junior Leagues and considerably more in the U19's. There are now no U21 comps and U20's have fallen from 4 comps (32 teams) last year to 1 comp of 10 teams. There are 16 teams playing U19's in Penrith but no other comps above U18. Apart from Penrith the only sources of players for Flegg appears to be Qld, NSW Country or NZ.

QRL had to shorten the HDC comp as well so perhaps the NSWRL will follow suit. Would love to see a tournament of the best U20-U21 talent occur somehow to give the players a chance at getting better NRL deals/exposure.

Fair enough but I always think that the cream will rise to the top. My view is that standards right across the board have fallen considerably. Roy Masters was expressing this point about the NRL in today's paper. I think having Under 21's playing a full season, just like the NRL, results in unrealistic expectations that they are all in line to become professionals whereas the reality is that 2-3% will make it. Do they think of RL as a job instead of a enjoyable pastime?

There was a time where everyone played, and a suburb like Rozelle had 6 different clubs with 5 of them playing U21's. When rep teams were picked from 95 teams you had to be better than a lot of players to make the grade, now you only have to better than one other person in your position to be picked in Flegg.

I would love to believe the decline could be reversed but the momentum looks hard to stop.
