42,221 of 52,500 is actually 80.4% if we want to get specific. As @SLRBRONCOS has also mentioned, GA bays are capped at 70% capacity at Suncorp, so the total number of seats that can be filled for a Broncos game (even if all the members turn up) is not 52,500, but more around 48,000.

If you want to find other events which were announced as sell outs which only filled a comparable amount of the ground (again because there was GA seats and members didn't fully turn up) you only have to look at Gather Round in Adelaide on Saturday and Sunday. The sold out crowds announced for those days were 45,970 (85.9%) on Saturday and 43,198 (80.7%) on Sunday.

Why is there a 70% capacity on the GA section?

In Australia, major venues are prevented from selling 100% of any General Admission bay at any major venue.

There are a few reasons for this including safety & security, however the main reason is venues have a responsibility to try and accomodate purchasing groups.

Whilst ground staff don't have to guarantee you that if you buy 8 seats together in a GA section that all 8 seats will be together, they have to provide close to or what is termed a 'reasonable variance' of what you bought.

Underselling makes it easier for attendees to find somewhere to sit together, and means stadium staff aren't forced to try and play tetris to fit everyone in.

Why Suncorp has picked 70% capacity as the quota, I can't answer, though I imagine they have done the math & worked out the optimal rate relative to staffing costs, customer complaints and so on.

Newcastle is continuing to sell strongly for Friday's game. It's a bit crazy that once again when the team loses Ponga to a multi-week injury, suddenly the team finds itself in a winning streak.

Lower part of the Western Grandstand has very little tickets left from Bay's 50 to 60, with only the very back of the corners having anything. Bay's 2 - 10 on the Eastern Lower is also pretty much gone, whilst the upper areas of both sides are selling strongly. Definitely best pre-sales yet for a Knights game this year, hoping to push closer to 25K.

Pre-sales for Sunday's Roosters v Cowboys game is trending more like Roosters v Storm and Roosters v Warriors, so possibly a 16K-17K. Eels match on Thursday is surprisingly showing some signs of life. Hopefully, if nothing else, the return of Gutho & Moses will get the Eels members out. Them alone would get us to 15K+ if they all turn up.

Incredible result if they do and I think it’s quite likely, certainly if they put in good showings against the Storm and Broncos.

I’d like to see the Auckland city council take note and drop some investment into a capacity upgrade for the ground. Realistically a new stadium isn’t going to get built in Auckland in the next 5-10 years minimum so it’ll get utilised.

It’s less about a winning streak and more that this is their first home game that’s either not expected to be a monsoon or in a terrible time slot. They’ve had a lot of Thursday night games that stop those of us from Sydney or with families being able to go. They’ve had 1 game on the actual weekend that wasn’t rained out (against the Storm).

The Broncos next two home games are experiencing a bit of a sales surge. Estimates are based on good (better than that ghastly performance on Sunday) form and weather.

- Round 14 v Cronulla - probably at 34k sold.
- Round 18 v Penrith - probably at 40k sold.

As for further down the track:
- Round 19 v St George Illawarra - a few thousand more to sell and then level 7 should open. A bit concerned that this might be our smallest crowd of the year so far unless we (and the Dragons) go on a bit of a run.
- Round 21 v Canterbury - a rare Saturday 3pm game - level 7 should open soon. Could be a very good crowd. If Reynolds comes back a week early it could sell out.
- Round 25 v Paramatta - selling the slowest of all, but yonks away. A bit to go in level 6, but very few available in level 5. Crowd will be reliant on good form and weather.
- Round 27 v Melbourne - selling slowly but level 7 is open. It's a Thursday night, but if in the 8 we should se 35-40k. If we're both around the top 4 it should sell out.

What an incredible achievement that would be, an entire season sold out ! remember they also sold out thier trail games and thier away game in south Island.

From what I've heard the atmosphere at the games is something else, loud AF

Let's hope the owners don't get greedy and start upping the price of tickets.

Let's also hope the momentum goes through to the pacific cup and we get a crowd bigger than 8k for the final.
