2024 Crowd Watch

Roosters v manly would struggle to get 10k at the old sfs
The equivalent game last year was at the Sydney Cricket Ground and drew 12,197 (granted it was the Thursday 8:00pm slot).

Allianz Stadium 2.0 is an absolute hit with rugby league fans, and the NRL and NSW Government should be encouraging more eastern Sydney clubs to take derbies to the stadium.

The Eora Round concept is a great idea in 2025, but it need not stop there.

Definitely needs more RL content. Roosters & Rabbitohs as full time tenants (except Good Friday). Dragons playing some or all of their Sydney games there, Tigers for a big game or 2 instead of Leichhardt. That would take it to 20-25 games per year which is much better than 10-11.

NRL

In Round 21 of the NRL, the Broncos drew another 40,000+ attendance - their 7th for the year, with 42,213 turning up for their match against the Bulldogs. The Broncos currently average 40,710 at home for the season – all matches obviously at Suncorp Stadium.

Further North, and the Cowboys hosted the Sharks in front of 17,907 at QCB Stadium. The Cowboys have a home average of 18,685 this season in Townsville.

The late game saw 25,155 turn out to Allianz Stadium for the Sydney and Manly. The Roosters now have a season average of 23,240, and an Allianz Stadium average of 21,849 for the season.

NRLW

In Round 1 of the 2024 NRLW season, the Sharks drew 1,257 to its standalone clash with the Cowboys at Pointsbet Stadium. In Brisbane, the Broncos and Eels drew 10,382 to the Broncos double header at Suncorp..

I agree, Sydney finally has their Suncorp and the NRL should work with the State Government to build as many event games there as possible. I'd love to get down to Sydney for a game there soon.

Do we know at what point of the NRLW game (when it is on a gamecard with the NRL) they use to determine the crowd number?

Agree, Allianz games should come at the expense of some Leichhardt games. All other games at Campbelltown and work with the A-League team for some upgrades.

Makes sense.

Wiggers support draws from the Inner West (Balmain were realistically the second sleeping giant after Souths) and honestly the Light Rail makes life so easy to get there now.

Commbank just isn't as convenient.

Campbo and Allianz make so much sense going forward.

I'm sure Venues NSW had an influence on Wests Tigers taking their 4 games to CommBank versus say Allianz.

From the government's perspective they already have 3 primary tenants for Allianz (Roosters, Waratahs & Sydney FC), plus have Souths banging on the door. That, plus some of the other events they are targeting/trying to create ensures the venue has pretty decent occupancy.

On the other hand, CommBank only has the Eels & WSW. Penrith will play there until their ground is built, but from a NSW Government perspective they'd want another tenant.

Richo, we know, went to VenuesNSW prepared to take at least 4 games over 5 years to wherever he could get the best deal, which was CommBank in the end.
