2024 Crowd Watch

That prelim was a Friday as well, how many people need a day off to attend a game at 8pm?

Sharks whinging in the media shows they’d rather get their excuses in early than actually put in effort to drawing a crowd. Plenty of fans will eat that shit up as some form of solidarity with the club thinking it will be a ‘told you so’ moment. Sharks have had a tanty and shown no respect for the finals system that they’ve know about all year. In the process they’ve also talked up the NRL’s main rival as the bigger attraction that night, all very amateur hour stuff.

Hope we put them out of their misery in straight sets.
I’d like to know what the Board thinks of this. The club CEO talking down the supporter base is pretty poor.

My question is why are we so scared of playing at the same time as the AFL all of a sudden? We did it two years ago, the exact same scenario. Makes no sense...

Bulldogs versus Manly to play on Sunday so that it could avoid a clash with GWS was blown way out of proportion. Having a game at Townsville on a Saturday night, a favoured Cowboys timeslot made more sense.

I don't think the code is running away from the other mob. You can have commonsense scheduling so that you could maximise a crowd, just like today with Bulldogs/Manly. Have an extra day to sell more tickets at a much larger venue like Accor, instead of Townsville.

Although unfortunately, Cronulla want to play a finals game at Shark Park, which only holds 13,000. Cronulla's mindset is still stuck in the NSWRL days.

What Cronulla should have done during the year is take a couple of games at Allianz. Try and grow the fan base. And when it's finals time, the fans would be more accepting of a game at SFS 2.0.

Cronulla's insecurities has put the NRL in an awkward spot.

That's a really good point, could have definitely taken some high drawing opposition to Allianz during the season, Roosters, Souths, Dragons... all of a sudden they wouldn't be a disaster in the crowd stats. There's plenty of their fans that can't be stuffed with their pathetic stadium too and this would have engaged those fans.

Well finish work at 5 or 5.30 and want to take kids you are looking at leaving the shire at 6 or 6.30.

Looking at a minimum of an hour travel time. Then wanting to eat before.

So many people on here look at a map and think it is easy. Reality is vastly different

Cronulla’s semi final clash against North Queensland next Friday night will not be played at Shark Park, with the NRL instead favouring Allianz Stadium in Sydney’s eastern suburbs as the venue.

Late on Saturday night, The Daily Telegraph reported that Parramatta’s CommBank stadium was set to hold the Sharks-Cowboys semi, but it now appears that Allianz Stadium will play host.

One thing is for certain is that Cronulla’s PointsBet Stadium (Shark Park) won’t be used.

We have a club with no Leagues club to benefit from the extra foot traffic. There is no reason to keep games at Shark Park if the money doesn't stack up.

I'd say they have done their research and know it wasn't popular so haven't moved the games

Cronulla were bs when they said it would only get 15k at Allianz so they could get a home game

the Cronulla ceo (whose doing an excellent job) has made a huge fool of himself

It’s good to see it’s back at Allianz it’s a better stadium and closer for sharks fans and easier to get to for cowboys fans

Let’s see how Penrith crowds stand up next year playing out of Penrith

people forget the sharks to home games to kogarah which is a lot closer than Allianz

the crowds were awful

I know Penrith's crowds will drop.

The club knows this aswell.

Most people on here don't attend games, so has no idea of the amount of work involved in getting to a Thurs or Friday game.

40 mins away is even worse

The Nrl could take the Sharks game to Kogarah Jubilee Oval and after the game Sharks fans head across the road to the Leagues club to commiserate about choking again and remember what it is like to have a functionally Leagues club.
Cronulla could merge with the Dragons and combine their short coming like West's and Balmain did. Throw that suck up a gear.

Which is all well and good for fans in those particular circumstances. What % of potential attendants does the ‘work until after 5pm and have young kids’ excuse cover? Even in those particular circumstances a lot of people can find work arounds if they wanted to.

I have no doubt they could at a push but a Friday night prelim at an even harder to get to Accor.

What are you choosing?

As opposed to the shit fight that is going to be that area on Friday night with 60k extra people.

The game should be a Sunday and this discussion doesn't need to happen

As a neutral I'd prefer the game at a packed Shark park.

You might get 9k extra fans at Allianz but its an embarrassing look having a 60% empty stadium for a finals game.

Add to this the NRL owns the hotel that sits on the ground and you see why there is a vested interest in continuing to play roster games there. But not finals. Please.

It's probably already been mentioned, but what is the long term plan for shark park? Is this their final design? Or are they still working on it?

I can't believe they went from 22k to 13k as their final plan.

Sharks park looks embarrassing full , a semi played at a park footy ground? f**k me.
The NRL should be cutting funding to the Sharks until the stadium is fixed.
This is beyond ridiculous at this point.

My understanding is that it’s to go back to around 18000 but any plans for this are held up by the development being completed. Leagues club to reopen in late 2025. As for the ground I have no idea anymore. Tell you what though. That announcement by the CEO yesterday hasn’t helped the club’s reputation at all.

I doubt the Sharks care that NRL own the hotel. All clubs are selfish and will do what is best for them or what they think is best.

If they thought there was money it it they'd be there
