think a 20k all seater in a central location would be good for the other rectangular codes and maybe the odd Dolphins and NRLW game

Especially as Suncorp is the venue for the big concerts.

We saw this year a Pink Concert left Suncorp unavailable and Dolphins played Dragons at a 12k seater.

Ipswich would be perfect. Will have a population of 500k in a little over a decade.

That would be prefect for the next Brisbane/SEQ team if and when that happens, 9-10 games there with derbies at Suncorp.

Roar & Reds would want a central venue though so I’d say that’s more likely. In time though I do believe there is room for both, especially if an Ipswich NRL team happens in the future.

Gabba, a smaller 30k rectangular stadium would be more appropriate for the footprint of the Gabba than an oval hanging over the road.

Fitzroy can go play at the ground that was built for them at Springfield or piss off back to Melbourne

AFL own Marvel though, don’t they? Couldn’t see them doing RL a favour.

The NRL would need to speak to the AFL & Marvel in advance to keep Marvel Stadium in a format that would be able to be used for NRL.

It’s currently set up with an indoor golf course & then will be organised for The Weekend concert next week. The grass definitely wouldn’t be in a usage condition for league:

There is no sporting event scheduled for Marvel until December now.

Would pass on Marvel unless they bring the stands in. Money talks - a 40k crowd would generate $2m - $3m in ticketing, over $1m in catering and make that worthwhile for all parties.

I know. It's unfortunate that there is lack of mid-sized rectangular stadium options in Brisbane where a game like this could be taken.

The Broncos would never play in Redcliffe now the Dolphins are in the NRL & RL would never play at Ballymore (although it can only hold 5-6K these days).

Davies Park & Wynnum's Kougari Oval are only a bit bigger at 5K.

True. Bishop Park is probably 6k.

Langlands Park should have been built up to at least Dolphin Oval standards 10-11k when it was recently renovated.

There are quite a few accessible seats left for the Melbourne game - I wonder if they will start selling these as general public seats come Thursday night.

They've often done this at Suncorp.

It would be cool to break the attendance record at the stadium.

Say an extra 10k ppl at Etihad at 100 bucks a ticket it’s only 1 million extra

Catering etc would be similar to aaami so it would depend on what the afl charge v rent at aami

AAMI Park’s attendance record for sport is 29,871 (Wallabies Vs England in 2016)c with the highest Storm game being Storm V Cowboys Prelim in 2015 of 29,315

With the changes to the stadium regarding accessibility and the increased screen size (which took our rows of seats at each end) I suspect the capacity is lower these days.

The Women’s World Cup capacity had it at 27,706, I think that is closer to current capacity for AAMI Park

AAMI Park would be lower rent, especially if Marvel was expected to set the Stadium into rectangular mode and maintain the quality of the crowd outside of the AFL season.

It is why the VFL Grand Final has been played at Ikon Park the past five years and why AFLW games aren’t played there—- because it’s more cost effective to maintain Marvel as a concert venue between The AFL & cricket seasons

I forgot that they removed some seats to put in those screens. The WWC reduced capacities because of media sections though, from memory Suncorp dropped down to 49k-ish.

Venues maintain a licensed capacity and make up the lost numbers with corporate spots. For example, Suncorp lost 300 seats when the screens were replaced but now they just sell 300 more standing corporate packages (where they can) - hopefully AAMI Park has allowed this, and the NRL has managed to sell them.
