Crowd looks and sounds good IMO. Game has been pretty good so far too.

Still don’t like the format. Only having one game each week from the pacific cup and having a team not play each week just isn’t a great way to build momentum. Would be much better with 4 teams and everyone playing each week.

Should've been at least 4 teams, hence each team playing a guaranteed minimum of 3 matches in the group phase. Also, your point about a 4 team comp allowing each team playing each week(end)......

If the NRL/IRL/RFL want test match football to be a priority....simple...teams need to play more tests.

Furthermore, tonight's crowd is the largest for a test match in Australia (not involving New Zealand or England/Great Britain) since Australia vs France at the SCG in 1968 (54290)

Test match crowds at Suncorp Stadium have come a long way since the SL-war.

Post SL-war, Australia vs NZ in 1998 and Australia vs Great Britain in the 1999 both got sub-20k at Suncorp. In fact, that 1999 tri-series match barely got over 12k and looked a ghost town on tv. Shows you just how much of a negative impact the SL-war had on international RL.

Since 2003 - when the redevelopment at Suncorp was complete, with a capacity of 52,500 - tonight's crowd of 33,196 surpassed the 2017 RLWC semi-final (22,073), the rescheduled 2015 ANZAC test (32,681), and is narrowly behind the 2007 ANZAC test (35,241), as well as the 2010 Four-Nations final (36,299).

So, putting that all into perspective, tonight's crowd is definitely a success and shows that international RL has a lot of potential

Wouldn't disagree that 4 teams is more practical than 3 teams.

However, we should be wary of the values and tropes of club RL. Each international fixture between two of the stronger nations ought to be inherently meaningful, regardless of format.

An England v Brazil Soccer friendly or one-off England v New Zealand RU Test would both be perceived as major events by the fans and media of those two sports. NRL deserves similar unconditional prestige every time some of their best players don the Kangaroos jersey against NZ/England/Tonga/Samoa/PNG.

RL is seriously behind the eight ball in Fiji which is hard to take especially when the NRL could have sewn up the country and the pacific region 25 years ago or even further back.
