Congrats India. We gave them too much of a start. Proud of the chase we put up but India kept their cool when it looked like it was slipping away from them.

Cricket Australia is a mess. In the end the IPL form has worked out well as expected. Head and Stoinis the only Aussie batsmen to perform well at the World Cup. Both performed well in the IPL.

Australia also had JFM and Green with good IPL performances (Green mostly in 2023 but he finished well this year too). JFM and Green should have been in the team

Warner, Marsh and Maxwell all failed in the IPL and all came up short in the World Cup. Warner and Marsh should have been left out for JFM and Green. These were simple selections to make

Inglis also should have been in for Wade

Australia failed badly at the 2022 T20 World Cup. And when they won in 2021 it was a case of win the toss and win the match on pitches that were badly biased to batting 2nd in the UAE

Cricket Australia won't learn from this and there will be more of the same in the near future

Cameron Green IPL career batting stats = 29 matches 41 av 153 sr

Mitch Marsh IPL career batting stats = 42 matches 19 av 127 sr

Green is a miles better bat than Marsh in the T20 format as he is in the test match and first class formats. Marsh is a better bowler than Green but Marsh does not bowl anymore as he breaks down with injury

Cricket Australia made Marsh captain

Yeah stoinis stood up when it mattered against Oman and Scotland.

England may as well give him an MBE for ensuring there passage into the semi finals for his pointless innings against Scotland.

Sticking with tried and true is fine. Until it doesn't work.
Warner: no problem with him in the squad but Fraser Mcguirk was the hot hand and should have been in the squad as an alternative if Warner or someone else didn't fire.
Head: no issues.
Marsh: as usual overhyped, he wouldn't get a run for SA, England or India and definitely not at 3.
Maxwell: one that you have to keep even if he is struggling because if he hits form there's no one like him.
Stoinplod: should have been moved on 5 years ago. Horrid.
David: does the dog work of scoring quickly off limited balls. Not sure he's a competent chasing finisher.
Wade: worst selection in the side. Has never been a top level keeper and has struggled to make his BBL team yet gets picked. Ludicrous.
Starc: like Maxwell. Didn't pay off against India but if he played v Afghanistan we might have won.
Cummins: no issues
Zippy: no issues.
Hazelwood: no issues.
Special mention to Agar. Why the f**k was he in the squad. Absolute turnip for a long time.

You can bury your head in the sand and say T20 doesn't matter but the reality is it is the form of the game that is growing in importance every year.
