Sick of the NRL bashing still going on when it it's about moving finals etc because of the Swans, GWS, Lions etc....AFL has never had a Super League War...NRL is doing great X

That wasnt really the case in 1984-85 when this very nearly did happen, except the VFL clubs and league ended up working things out and then set in place measures which actively made it much harder to separate, and which did likely prevent these issues from happening when Murdoch DID approach in 1995.

• 1995 – April 7. John Elliot says he was approached by Rupert Murdoch about forming a superleague in late 1994, but he declined. The AFL believed its license agreements that prevented a departing club from playing in another licensed competition for at least 2 years would prevent any club from leaving.

I mean come on having an annual license just made the ARL clubs ripe for the taking, and even now its still only a 5 year one.
