Down from 3.667m to 3.265m on FTA in week 1 - With few Melbourne teams and none of the big ones, Vic ratings took a battering, down 13%, Perth down 24% with no WA teams again.

Those Sydney ratings are pathetic, even for games involving the Swans and Giants. And people still think the Swans are huge? lol You can pretty much fit their TV audience into Accor Stadium. Brisbane not much better. AFL outside of Melbourne and the wasteland states is a myth.

I’ll be interested to see how Ritchie and his little grub try to paint this into an NRL win
Help me understand something -

On the crowd thread, you vilify anyone who brings up the greater inclination of AFL fans to attend matches. Paint them as AFL trolls, say AFL is their favourite sport, etc.

Entirely different on the ratings thread. Here, NRL partisanship is anathema.

Why the contrast?

Do you think AFL ratings benefit from being a week further forward in their finals series?

No i think the AFL benefits from having 4 matches to focus on instead of 9, half of which mornally overlap and/or feature less drawing teams. Plus historically, the Thursday and Friday night overall ratings, not to mention Saturdays normally tilt the AFLs way, due to usually outperforming on FTA for the most part.

Where the NRL normally wins is the other 4-5 matches a round, as it does better on Fox and most of the AFLs matches on Saturday and Sunday clash with other matches. The NRLs Sunday FTA broadcast does regularly beat the AFLs as well.

Ive often wondered what the material effect would be on AFL broadcast averages if the local broadcast rule didnt exist and they went the NRL route and only showed three to four games a week nationally.

Query related to the fact that each week of the finals series, AFL are one step closer to the GF.

This weekend for instance, NRL semis competing for attention with AFL prelims.

I mean i cant rule that out given thats true most years. I think 2020 they ran at the same time though - but again circumstances were different - shorter matches etc, that resulted in a ratings boom for the AFL.

On the crowd thread I rarely if ever mention anything about afl crowds. Mainly because I don’t care. On the ratings thread I simply stick to facts about what the figures are relying on a solid source - the wookie. How you choose to interpret that is up to you and uninteresting to me. What I don’t like is pointless embellishments of figures by cheerleaders of either code. Go shove that up your Pommy ass.

It’s pretty well established in recent years the NRL outrates the afl over the normal season but it’s the other way round during finals. It looks like happening again.

Another favourite Pom (Potter) seems to have gone AWOL.

Missed seeing Sharks capitulate to South Melbourne. And ensuing Tasmaniac meltdown.
