I think what the 3 games ashes series has shown is that British Rugby League needs to stop relying on has beens and never was players from the NRL and reduce the overseas quota forcing clubs to develop British juniors.

Interesting stat: since Jermaine McGillvary scored a try in the 5th minute of the 2017 RLWC opener against Australia in Melbourne, England have scored only one try....yes, that's correct.....ONE try in their last 315 minutes of test match football against Australia.

To put that in perspective, the last time Australia played a test match against:

- Tonga (2024 Pacific Championships final), Tonga scored 3 tries
- New Zealand (2024 Pacific Championships), New Zealand scored 2 tries
- Samoa (2023 Pacific Championships), Samoa scored 2 tries
- Fiji (2022 World Cup), Fiji scored 2 tries

With George Williams try at Headingley, England have scored TWO tries in their last 395 minutes vs. Australia.

2003 was next world. Never mind Australia. The English team that series was godly compared to this English team on display here.

Waking up at 6am to watch that series was pretty special. What an amazing squad when you read the names.
Before the 2003 Ashes, the last time Australia played (what was then) Great Britain was in a mid-year test the previous year at the old SFS. Australia smashed them 64-10. Needless to say, the Poms haven't toured Australia mid-season since then!

Then, there was the thrilling 2003 Ashes, where all three tests went right down to the wire and the rest is history.

Following on from that, what doesn't get mentioned much is the 2004 tri-nations tournament. The Poms still remained competitive in that tournament. First test between the two teams at the City of Manchester Stadium (this is when the RFL slowly began to host more tests at the larger 30k+ seat venues in the aftermath of the 2000 RLWC) also went right down to the wire, with Luke Rooney breaking an 8-all deadlock in the final minute to win for Australia. The Poms bounced back and beat the Aussies at Wigan, but then got completely blown off the park in the first half of the final at Elland Road.

England were willing in the third test, but when it came to excuting its chabnce and converting them to points? That's where it failed. None of it spine players looked likely to create points with ball in hand. For Australia, they convereted its chance to pouints when it had the=m. That's why the scoreboard was so lop sided.

Personally I thought, over the three tests, Walsh and Grant were complete class, Munster was hot and cold, whilst Cleary? He was solid at best. Last night though he looked MIA. Quite frankly Walters has no idea how to get that attack firing as the attack never really improved over the series. It looked clunky nearly the whole series.

Walsh had a fantastic game 1 followed by 2 shockers.

The Aussies well and truly played like a Kevin Walters coached side!

Regarding the international schedule after next year's World Cup, it appears that the Baskerville Shield will make a comeback in 2027, with England hosting New Zealand in a three-test series.

Cleary showed again he just isn't that wonderful player outside of the Penrith structure.
Maybe he can;t cope when it isn't the only one in control who knows buts surely its time to give others a go especially for NSW or they will keep losing

If it's to be a true Kangaroos tour, they need to work it around however possible to give the 'Emus' a run as well in mid week. Mitchell Moses should feel wronged to not have got a second of action and that bodes as well for Origin - Cleary just doesn't translate it much to the origin arena

Gotta admire Panthers’ fans mental gymnastics trying to blame everyone but Cleary for his continued representative failures.
It’s the game plan, Brad Fittler, his halves partner, Madge. The latest is Harry Grant not giving him the ball lol.
