2025 Crowd Watch

For a sport that averages around 20K, I still don't get why we are all being so harsh on Perth getting 31K yesterday.

I mean we can count on one hand all the clubs who will draw a larger crowd this year.

Anyway rather than looking at just one event, we should consider everything taking place in Perth this year. Origin is selling great & will sell out. Extra seats have been added this year (versus last time), so it will push close to 65K.

Meanwhile the Dolphins Round 16 game at HBF Park is trending ahead of the same fixture last year & will most likely sell out.

That's 110K+ from 3 events. That's far from an insignificant number and IMO enough evidence to suggest there is enough support for an NRL franchise.

AAMI Park not looking particularly full at the moment, security might be running slower in light of the morons who took guns into the MCG the other week though.

Very good crowd

Indeed it was.
Unfortunately, we now live in a day and age that a sold-out crowd never, or rarely means full capacity is reached.
It's really frustrating tbh.
I understand why though. It's almost inconceivable that Brookvale's record attendance is 10 000 more than what they allow into the ground these days.
Kogarah is over 5000 more in the old days.
Even the biggest dump of them all, Lidcombe Oval managed to fit more than 20 000 into in what was nothing more than a complete dump with the poorest facilities ever. Cumberland oval wasn't much better.
No one batted an eyelid back then. We all just jammed in, took a piss in disgusting toilet facilities, and didn't care if we had to queue to get an ice-cream or a coke or a cold sausage roll or pie.
They were actually great days and as a pre or post teen, going to the footy at these grounds was the best part of every week.

The double header had months to sell tickets for and we get this.

This is why the GF isn't leaving NSW or QLD
I actually didn't know it was on until yesterday. There is no marketing for double headers. People talk/think about the Vegas and Magic round. Double headers aren't marketable.

Great crowd in Melbourne and the ever-reliable Novocastrians are out in force.

I get the feeling the Tigers need a W to inject a bit of excitement into the somewhat-forgotten Easter Monday clash between the Tigers and the Eels. There's still a swathe of tickets available for that game.

So WA govt spend $1m + to get the game for no tourism to results from it?

Smart move by Dolphins. I think the Broncos and Dolphins should both play over there the weekend after the Perth SOO.

Most of the empty seats today would be members who couldn’t attend. If they keep approaching capacity the Storm should introduce a seat return scheme for individual matches to try and maximise the crowd.

Melbourne outdrew Newcastle:

To be fair, Storm are favourites to win the competition with one of the most entertaining teams in the comp.
Newcastle just got flogged by the Tigers..

It is very encouraging to see these Melbourne crowds though!
I'd like to see them host a double header at the MCG Next year during gather round.
