I honestly think it'll be conservatively 75% Bulldogs supporters. Probably more. They've had a decade of being awful, they now have a proper footy team, and their supporters are riding a wave of positivity right now.

For Souths, hoping this "event" mindset will get a few more butts out there, but we've pretty much given up on Accor. Also sitting high on Level 6 probably doesn't deliver enough to counter the issues with getting to Olympic Park and back when it's an event day (no parking, etc).

I think 60-65k is very likely.

More hype from the NRL:

'What an introduction': Dodd ready to debut in Good Friday furnace

South Sydney recruit Lewis Dodd couldn't have picked a bigger game to make his NRL debut.

A record-breaking crowd of up to 70,000 fans cramming into Accor Stadium for the traditional Good Friday showdown between the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs.

Not only is it the biggest game of the regular season but it will also be Dodd's first initiation into the NRL after his off-season arrival from England.

The playmaker has been named on the interchange for the clash, with Cody Walker set to wear the No.7 jumper if he can complete a fitness test on Thursday.

Dodd's delayed debut didn't come by choice, with injuries, a pair of suspensions and the stunning rise of youngster Jamie Humphreys forcing the playmaker to start his Australian career in reserve grade.

But teammate Jai Arrow is confident the delay will ultimately work in Dodd's favour as he prepares for an intense initiation into the NRL.

"It was a good thing for him to get used to playing rugby league in Australia," Arrow said. "They're two very different games, the Super League and the NRL. There's some similarities but a lot of differences as well. They say it's a bit faster over here.

"For him to gain that confidence playing in NSW Cup was only going to be good for him. He's five weeks into the season now so I'm sure he'll be fine."

Dodd's signature was celebrated last May with plenty of fanfare, the halfback the biggest name in English rugby league.

The playmaker led St Helens to UK Super League and Challenge Cup titles and kicked the winning field goal in their 2023 World Club Challenge victory over the Panthers.

Dodd's performance in that game instantly put him on the radar of NRL clubs and the Rabbitohs were thrilled to win the race for his signature.

Eleven months on, the halfback is set to play his first game for South Sydney on the biggest stage of all.

Former Bulldogs skipper James Graham will watch the match with torn allegiances. The retired prop is as passionate a Canterbury fan as they come, however he played alongside Dodd at St Helens in the final year of his career.

Graham quickly realised the hype was real and expects the youngster to thrive in Australia.

"What an introduction to the NRL," Graham told NRL.com. "To play your first game on Good Friday with a crowd of 60-70,000, it doesn't get any better than this.

"I'm expecting him to rise to the occasion, play his own game and Wayne will have a plan for him.

"I want the Bulldogs to win but I want Lewis to perform well. It was a brave decision as a young English half to put it all on the line and come out here. I don't think he's ever been spoken about so much and he hasn't even played a game, which would come as a big shock to him. I'm pleased he'll get his opportunity on Friday."

Dodd has impressed his South Sydney teammates with his attitude off the field and his performances on the training paddock in recent weeks.

The past couple of months clearly didn't go to plan but Arrow said you wouldn't know it by watching Dodd.

"He's always struck me as having that type of character," Arrow said. "He was never going to kick stones.

"He was always going to have a smile on his face, come to training, continue to work hard and continue to have fun with us and he's done that."

With all eyes on Accor Stadium on Friday afternoon, Dodd will finally get his first chance to prove the hype was worth it and his Rabbitohs teammates are determined to help him deliver on the big stage.

"He's a great player," hooker Peter Mamouzelos told NRL.com. "He's won multiple titles over in the UK and he's had to wait for his opportunity but we're all ready for it and we're going to back him and do our best to look after him.

"As Wayne says, 'just go out there and do a job' and I feel like that's what he's going to do."

Also are we on track for the biggest attended round as well? Which I thought was around 200k?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was round 26 last year. Average of 26,590. Aggregate of 212,725.

Would be impressive happening on a Weekend where the Broncos are playing away.

Yeah it's going to be close I think.

Dogs/Souths are doing some huge heavy lifting, but the games with a high ceiling that may get us there are:
- Roosters/Panthers (be good to draw 20k)
- Knights/Sharks (needs to draw over 20k)
- Tigers/Eels (closer to 30k the better)

Dad reckons we get 65,000 on Friday I’ll say 67,000. What’s your prediction?

it’ll be 70percent Dogs fans for sure.

Would you agree a fair estimate of unsold areas would look like:

Level 6 West - 12,000
Level 6 East - 7,500
Level 3 - 2,500

Total - 22,000 unsold

Capacity - 83,500

~ 61,500 Sold or allocated
-------------------------------------------------------
Forecast is for absolutely perfect conditions, bodes well for strong walk-ups.

i think level 6 is around 11-12k a side, last years semi final we got 50k without opening level 6

90% full on the level 1
level 4 was 95% on east side and around 60% full on west side (members)

i think fullest you could probably get is around high 50s without opening level 6

I think we’ll fall a bit short if it’s 212k. But it will get close.

Yes it will need games like roosters/panthers and tigers/eels overachieving to get there.

Less than 400 Easter Saver tickets left in level 6 west, meaning 90% / 3,600 have been sold.
Level 6 east has sold loads too

607 is showing as all gone

608 has shifted loads only five or so rows right at the back

609 and 610 have see. Loads of the 50 dollar tickets move

Most sales are happening after 6 pm so people getting home from work and watching 360 or reading an article in the paper and getting hyped up

To be fair, Storm are favourites to win the competition with one of the most entertaining teams in the comp.
Newcastle just got flogged by the Tigers..

It is very encouraging to see these Melbourne crowds though!
I'd like to see them host a double header at the MCG Next year during gather round.
MCG CEO said today that there in no room for a Storm game @ MCG. Said they use Gather Round to replace the turf and that their event calendar is full, and that they would only consider squeezing in other events that were like to fill the stadium.

I'm gonna say 69,000. A fantastic achievement on all accounts. History in fact. But so close to 70,000 it will be in the back of our minds how close it was to an even bigger milestone. Probably how the forum felt in 2013 when South Sydney and the Roosters almost but not quite got 60,000 yet still smashed the record.

No matter what the crowd ends up as (I'm tipping over 70k with a big walk up as it is an event to see now) it would be great if we can capitalise on this success and build more games like this.

I think the dolphins should request to play the storm each year on good Friday and we could easily see 30k+ every year with potential to sell it out often once it becomes a tradition in brisbane as it is in sydney.

I believe there is also room to play a 6pm game on good Friday, especially when we go to 9 games a round.

Anzac eve, though harder to plan for, should also be a game at suncorp every year.

MAN v SGI (Brookie) 16,500
CBY v SOU (Accor) 65,000
DOL v MEL (Suncorp) 32,000
WAR v BRI (Go Media) 23,000
SYD v PEN (Allianz) 18,000
GLD v CAN (Cbus) 13,000
NEW v CRO (MJS) 22,000
WST v PAR (Commbank) 22,000

Gets us 211,500, just a whisker short of the record.

I feel like I've been conservative with most of these figures so hopefully the record is in sight

Roosters got 25k against panthers last year on Easter Thursday. I get the teams are not in the same form but I would still be disappointed with less than 20k

ANZAC Day being our home game and 6 days later does not help though IMO

Level 6 East is still moving at a rapid rate. Gold seats are now only available in Bays 604, 610, 611.

608 is pretty much sold out, 606 & 609 both look like they'll be full by EOD.

On the west, there are only 82 easter saver tickets left.

I wonder if they'll look to open up some more bays on the west. Will look at bit strange having the eastern side packed in the middle & thinning on the edges, whilst on the west it will be packed on the edges and no one in the middle.
