There'll always be a reason to keep RL getting a leg up.

"The AFL don't like competition" - St Peter Vlandys. Never a truer word has been spoken.
The AFL let Storm play at their own stadium multiple times last year - they could really have stuffed the NRL around of they wanted to. They would not be worried in the slightest about Storm playing at the MCG, nor would they have much influence over the MCG. Cricket will push the AFL season back a week in 2027. Gridiron is getting priority next September. Despite what all the conspiracy theorists north of the Murray think, the AFL do not run Victoria, SA, WA and Tasmania.

Opening Docklands to other sports was a condition of the sale to the AFL, nice try.

I suppose you think the recent media hit piece on the Bears in Perth was just a coincidence too?

Something to be mindful of today, and we see this often with Brisbane games as well - I dont think we'll see the 'complete' crowd until like the 25th minute. People will be wondering around kick-off and who knows if there will be delays in getting people in?

I'm going to guess 63k as the total attendance. The largest unknowns are whether Accor Members turn up (?) and how many Souths members travel out (think there will be a solid showing). Not putting too much stock in people just rocking up as walk ups.

A great point. Today's event is a bit of a rarity for the venue with so many moving pieces.

Most 60K-80K events at Accor are planned at least a month out, there are no GA seats (concerts will have GA standing areas, but they are easier to control), stadium members have requested a pre-allocated seat and there are no concepts of reciprocal rights or flexi game members, who may or may not turn up. This game has grown rapidly in the past fortnight and there will potentially be some chaos.

I'm sure they'll have plenty of contingencies in place if there is larger than expected attendance in some groups, though it takes time to implement them.

That will be in addition to the fact there will just be more people in the venue so it's slower to get in and move around.

I would say the AFL would be easily the most influential, powerful organisation in Victoria. They run the bits they want to run.
They dont run the education system for example but they would be able to do whatever they want to inside that system.

LOL check the influence the AFL has in pressuring the Tasmanian & Feds on the new stadium.

The AFL has tremendous influence in the media. In NSW & Qld even in the early days of the Lions& Swans , these state's media gave plenty of space and time and coverage .Who will benefit most with the new Brisbane stadium?

The AFL pressured the NSW Govt & ensured the now Accor Stadium would not become rectangular by putting in an amount of loot to be kept available for AFL.After the 2000 Olympics it was to become rectangular.

In the AFL states particularly Victoria , just how much coverage did the Storm get in the early days & even now.
Rest assured the reason the Storm got anew stadium was thanks mainly to the Victory.
Do not underestimate the power of the press/AFL. And we have seen this with the West Australian who are pushing the negative button on the WA Bears by AFL journalists like Carpon.
