That comparison is ludicrous. Brisbane v North Queensland is one of the premium rivalries in Australian sport.

Last night's effort was two clubs who are mediocre in every way, with small fanbases that revel in that mediocrity. If either the clubs or their fanbases could be bothered to turn it into a good rivalry, play at decent stadiums and at least try to give the game some lustre then it could be mentioned in the same breath.

But they don't and it resembled little better than a country rugby league local derby.

It was buried exactly where it deserves to be. Good scheduling NRL.

As a Dragons fan, i don't revel in that mediocrity, so that is a load of nonsense. I am sure fans from both clubs feel the same way. Not sure how big or small the fan bases are of both clubs.

When you look at a big club like Canterbury, in 2022, they only averaged just under 15,000. They were around that mark for a number of years whilst at the lower part of the ladder. Last year they made the semis, and the average jumped to over 20,000. This year who knows. Dogs are currently averaging 34,628 halfway through the season. A significant jump from 2022. Not saying Sharks and Dragons could emulate Canterbury but their current crowd averages isn't an actual accurate reflection either.

Meanwhile Brisbane v Nth Qld was certainly one of the premium rivalries in Australian sport in 2020. Cowboys finished 14th, Broncos collected the wooden spoon. Certainly the Cowboys haven't been the same since JT retired which is to be expected, but they do have their moments. Deardon is so important to them. As for Broncos, they have been complacent since 2006, but since the Dolphins have come in, they are slowly getting their act together.

At the end of the day, we want all clubs to be strong. It's so frustrating to see a few club administrators not doing a good job.

That's what most of us on here want. As a neutral its much better viewing with a big crowd.

The problem is getting these clubs to take some risks. The Dogs did it with $10 tickets and they got 65k and 59k respectively. I'd love to see the Sharks or Dragons take a Saturday or Sunday game to Allianz with cheap tickets and promote the heck out of it.

Funny thing is, the NRL has scheduled our game in NQ with the SEQ scum on a Thursday in the past and even though we were utter dog shit that year and that Thursday nights are also utter dog shit for us hosting games with 30% of our fan base having to travel over 100kms for a home game, it still got 19.5k. I have been saying for the Dragons to take Sydney home games at Allianz, with one heritage match at Kogarah. Plus an upgraded Win. Currently i don't think we can compete with clubs who are playing in great stadiums like Parra, Roosters, Broncos, Dolphins etc. Souths belatedly want a piece of it.

Sharks could play a few at Allianz, but what are their long term plans at Shark Park?

In this very thread we've had Saints fans state that they do not want to travel to larger stadiums, favouring a glorified suburban cricket ground. The definition of revelling in medicority.

You and your club should not talk about what Canterbury has done. You should make it happen yourselves.

Regardless of form or personnel, the Brisbane/ NQ rivalry is played in big modern stadiums with big crowds and big TV audiences. Yours is quite literally not in the same ballpark.

Don't make such ridiculous comparisons. The game was in the slot it deserved. It's not a great or passionate or even interesting rivalry currently.

The point I am making is why put a rivarly in an origin depleted round? The scheduling around origin is a total basket case anyway. The one thing I do agree with is that a club like the Dragons should make it happen themselves and be proactive by playing home games at Allianz.

Yes it's not ideal but junk games like Cronulla v St George draw the last straw I'm afraid. Not enough people care.

You do know the $10 tickets barely 5000 were made available for the Parramatta game and around 8,000 for South Sydney. The Dogs were always going to get massive crowds for those 2 games with or without the $10 tickets.

No risk was taken and 2 massive pay days went the Bulldogs way from ticket sales, merchandise sales, membership sales and the publicity the club got from the crowds afterwards also.

Yes I agree Cronulla, St George, Manly should take games to Allianz and offer a few thousand cheaper seats in the nose bleeds but they won't... NRL needs to force clubs to move away from Suburban $hitholes.

Dragons really need to turn to the gong and give them more games. They should play in that beautiful red jersey when they play there as well. Ideally you’d have 2 Allianz games (roosters(Anzac only)/dogs/tigers/eels/rabbits),
8 to the gong, and maybe 1-2 at kogorah, sharks and one out of town team.

Sharks have to do better, just as club ceos take credit for great crowds, they need to come out and talk to their members about how they can get them to their games. Because that crowd between two Sydney neighbours without any bad weather is what pre 20k average nrl used to tolerate.

Wow what a turgid crowd. Sharks need to pull their finger out and sort out their home ground. As stated, St George need to play more out of SFS too

You're right, risk is probably the wrong word for the Dogs since they were getting a big crowd either way. The $10 tickets definitely helped for achieving that 65k crowd though.

My whole point is every club should be striving to grow their crowds, Knights included. Hopefully we can get to the point in 10-20 years where every club is averaging 20k or more. For clubs like the Sharks or Manly, this might mean taking their big games to Allianz.

Perth, like Cronulla, by virtue of their inadequate stadium will drag NRL crowd averages down.
Maybe judge us in 30+ years , ie the same min time period the other clubs have had to build a fanbase. Oh and by the way last year 9 of the 17 clubs dragged the avg down, so we wont be alone!
