That comparison is ludicrous. Brisbane v North Queensland is one of the premium rivalries in Australian sport.
Last night's effort was two clubs who are mediocre in every way, with small fanbases that revel in that mediocrity. If either the clubs or their fanbases could be bothered to turn it into a good rivalry, play at decent stadiums and at least try to give the game some lustre then it could be mentioned in the same breath.
But they don't and it resembled little better than a country rugby league local derby.
It was buried exactly where it deserves to be. Good scheduling NRL.
As a Dragons fan, i don't revel in that mediocrity, so that is a load of nonsense. I am sure fans from both clubs feel the same way. Not sure how big or small the fan bases are of both clubs.
When you look at a big club like Canterbury, in 2022, they only averaged just under 15,000. They were around that mark for a number of years whilst at the lower part of the ladder. Last year they made the semis, and the average jumped to over 20,000. This year who knows. Dogs are currently averaging 34,628 halfway through the season. A significant jump from 2022. Not saying Sharks and Dragons could emulate Canterbury but their current crowd averages isn't an actual accurate reflection either.
Meanwhile Brisbane v Nth Qld was certainly one of the premium rivalries in Australian sport in 2020. Cowboys finished 14th, Broncos collected the wooden spoon. Certainly the Cowboys haven't been the same since JT retired which is to be expected, but they do have their moments. Deardon is so important to them. As for Broncos, they have been complacent since 2006, but since the Dolphins have come in, they are slowly getting their act together.
At the end of the day, we want all clubs to be strong. It's so frustrating to see a few club administrators not doing a good job.
