2025 Crowd Watch

Come back in ten years. Plenty of kids on the bandwagon that might have some disposable income in their 20s.
This. There are tons of boomers out there who are Dragons fans, no doubt born off the back of the 11 premiership run during their childhood.

Then there’s lots of 50 year olds who are Eels fans, who would have been young kids during the early 80s.

The Roosters used to get flack for pulling disastrous crowds, despite their great form going back 20 years however now they’re a good drawing side.

Penrith historically have had a great local fan base but little else. Come 2040 I think you’ll find they’re a decent draw.

Interesting post from GoMedia Stadium about this year's Warriors games. What caught my eye is apparently, nearly 1 in 2 attendees this year were from outside Auckland

Home matches at Go Media Stadium continued to be a magnet for attracting fans from Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and beyond. Ticketing data pointed to 46 per cent of ticket purchases being from outside of Auckland, including seven per cent from overseas.

The Panthers are a small club and it is a small area. They should have been relocated after superleague.
Historically yes

With outer western Sydney set to house another million people and with the new airport that’s just about to open that will change

The power base in Sydney rugby league is shifting west with the population

Eels even more so they already are a massive club

In terms of Sydney clubs penrith and Cronulla are the youngest hence lower crowds historically

Why were they brought in in the first place and same with the Sharks.
Sharks only to stop the dragons dominating the competition (mistake)

Penrith was a growing area. Even places like st Ives in the early 1960s was bushland

Sydney expanded out fast

Panthers were a club that was before its time really. Back when panthers were formed there was hardly anyone there. Now and over the next decade there will be a population boom in that area and like others have said panthers will grow to be a bigger club.

Good result in Canberra no doubt, but also slightly surprised it took til today.

I guess a decline in away support maybe results in the slower week on week sales.

pax is 52k from 4 hours ago

The next pax update I can find from Canterbury vs Manly is 40,450 on the Saturday before the game.

That gives a factor of 0.7976. So if we can get a pax update on Saturday, we can see what that does to the crowd estimate formula.

View attachment 106309

So if we put these two together:

2025 crowd estimate = 2025 pax / 2024 factor
2025 crowd estimate = 52,000 / 0.7976
2025 crowd estimate = 65,195

Sounds like it will be a massive crowd.

Something that could only be achieved with the help of the Penrith Panthers.

Outside of bays 139 and 140, there is very little left in the lower bowl outside of restricted view seats or single seats. Level 3 only has 34 seats left, and there are 18 single seats left on Level 4.

Worth noting, for last year's Bulldogs v Sea Eagles Final which drew 50,714, the NRL never opened up level 6 and both level 3 and level 4 still had sections unsold.

On the NRLW Finals matches today, I'm surprised how well the reserved seating has sold in both Townsville and Newcastle. At QCB, there are less than 25 seats left in the lower level of the western stand between bays 100 - 113. Hopefully, considering these seats are more expensive than the rest of the ground, it's an indicator of an 8K+ crowd at the venue.

Newcastle's had strong sales between 53 - 57 that they've actually put on bays 51 - 52 & 58 - 59. Similar to Townsville, there's no evidence to suggest the cheaper GA areas are selling at a comparable level, though considering both clubs have been actively trying to push the games, we can challenge the Knights own NRLW Finals crowd record.
