Round 2: Hostplus Cup 2025 - Standout Performers

I'm going to pick a handful of players each week to highlight for those that want a little glimpse into what's going on the QLD Cup. It won't just be guys who killed it but also just inspecting how some of the NRL guys go when playing reggies.

Clydesdales 8 def. by Norths Devils 44
LJ Nonu, Ben Stevanovic, Sean O'Sullivan, Kenny Bromwich, Mason Teague and Jackson Shereb were the noteworthy Devils players to play against the Clydesdales (no NRL affiliated players)

LJ Nonu was the star of the show. After scoring a hat-trick in the Dolphins trial win against the Cowboys, Nonu backed it up with another hat-trick - this time against the Clydesdales. Nonu is just 19yo and featured for QLD in the u19 Origin last year. Sean O'Sullivan also played well for Norths with 3 try assists and a commanding kicking game.

XXXX Rivalry Round ready to deliver explosive duels

Some of Queensland rugby league’s most famous and fierce rivalries will explode this weekend across Round 3 of the Hostplus Cup.

SC Falcons 28 def. PNG Hunters 6

Falcons: Sua Fa'alogo, Grand Anderson, Cody Hunter, Mitch Henderson, Josh Billing, Angus Hinchey, Nelson Asofa-Solomona
Hunters: Morea Morea, Finley Glare, Zebedy Kip, Murray Connors

Hunters were missing a bunch of regulars. Falcons dominated. NAS was great with the ball but a liability in defense. Fa'alogo only managed 2 runs in his 20 minutes. Grant Anderson might as well have been Greg Inglis. He was unstoppable. For PNG, former half turned hooker Finley Glare made 5 errors and despite his numbers looking pedestrian, he looks dangerous with the ball and I think he's one of PNG's best young prospects in a while. Morea Morea had some great moments with the ball but he got picked up and turned around a number of times and made just 6 of 13 tackle attempts.
