Direct shoulder to the head = 2 weeks

Innocuous 'crusher' that wasn't penalised and didn't hurt anyone = 2 weeks

Madness
I’ve thought for years they’re a little too hard on crushers. The last bad one was Kurt Mann last year which copped a big penalty but when was the last person seriously injured from one.

The whole process is in urgent need of an injection of common sense . Nothing more frustrating for fans when players get suspended for innocuous incidents. After all, in the end it’s all about optimising the quality of the product and satisfying the fans . And seemingly random suspensions are detrimental to both those objectives. Peter V needs to solve this asap

So Foketi was unsuccessful in trying to get a downgrade for the tackle he got binned for.

So it is now official that a tackle where the player lowers himself to avoid head contact, does not swing an arm and has very low impact accidental contact with a head is a grade 2 careless tackle

I don't know what a grade 1 would be. It must not exist anymore.

Gradings are all over the shop this year.

Tapine's shoulder charge - which deserved a charge, don't get me wrong - hits the other player in the shoulder/arm, gets a grade 2.

KPP, reckless shoulder direct to the head - also a grade 2.

Two completely different tackles, same penalty. It's madness.

Can't comment on the specific cases as I didn't see the Tapine hit, but just in general...

Why would you possibly think the Match Review Committee would be any more consistent than the bunker? Incapable of getting black/white decisions correct half the time, the NRL expects them to deal in shades of grey. Then add unconscious bias, pressure from clubs and the NRL, influence of (nay, manipulation by) media, and scrambling to seem consistent after last week's half-baked decision - we're on a hiding to nothing.

Unlike the bunker, it is needed; but what it needs most is a major overhaul!

Hip drops penalty sufficient apparently.
Only if you play for an NRL protected team. Watch someone get suspended who had no intention of a hip drop while Munster lost his legs and used his weight to tackle the player from behind rather than the conventional legs covering tackle.

It wasn't a hip drop. Gee-up got it wrong.

“A hip-drop tackle is where a defending player in joining or committing a tackle, drops or uses their own body weight to apply pressure to an opponent's legs in such a way as to constitute an unacceptable risk of injury to the tackled player, this will constitute Dangerous Contact,”

Munster's hip hit the ground then the pink pervert fell over him. Ugly tackle but not illegal.

Yep, the penalty wasn’t even for a hip drop, it was for “duty of care”.
