2025 Match Review & Judiciary charges

This was discussed on another thread, but man, Rugby League is in a weird state.

Record crowds. Record ratings. Record finances.

But the "product" IMO has never been worse.

One side of me thinks the records are just a byproduct of the time we're living in. Bread and circuses, and all that - and we need the circus now more than ever.

Or maybe I'm just becoming a grumpy old man, and the young ones have been conditioned to love this nonsense.

I do support the game's overall desire to reduce the number and severity of concussions in the game because the game's long term survival depends on it. There will come a time when the game is sued royally for the long term health effects and deaths associated with CTE and the game has to show it is trying to mitigate the risk of brain injury as much as possible to defend the game's future. I get that and I want the game to survive and prosper as I'm sure everyone on here does.

The thing is, the NRL has always been far too knee jerk reactive and nowhere near proactive enough. Hence the latest mid-season crackdown that goes too far and then peters away to the point where the impact of it becomes negligible (especially around finals time).

They need to not throw the baby out with the bath water but they do need to do much better.

So according to the NRL Sorro's tackle was 2x worse than Latrell's..........make it make sense
Okay. Sorro was in the defensive line with time to line up the ball carrier and ... fully erect. Latrell was at fullback facing a 2-on-1 at high speed in backfield play trying to stop a try. Fa'alogo was slipping and far lower to the ground and Latrell was crouching by the time contact was initially made shoulder to shoulder before Fa'alogo slid further down and his head was also contacted. Chalk and cheese.

On the other hand, it's Latrell. so ...

Well with his record it actually should matter that it was Latrell

Latrell knew what he was doing. He has always had a cheap shot in him and the other night was no exception. The blokes a thug and he knows he can get away with it
I wish I could read minds like you. Amazing super power you have there mate.

I'd rather have x-ray vision if I could choose though.

High tackles should especially be as simple as possible.

Was it high?
Was it significant? (IE was it a slap across the chops or a KO, none of his force shit that you can't measure and that can be misleading anyway)
Was it careless/reckless/intentional by the defender (or for eg did the bloke drop into his arm nowhere near his head height)

Ofc there's still degrees within those, but FFS seeming guys get sin binned because they legit stand in the defensive line and are hit at high speed by a charging attacker who bounces or falls into their shoulder with force the attacker generated is taking the piss

Why is a slip in a tackle and get hit with a shoulder an offence, but a slip in a tackle and get hit with a knee play on?
Also Sorensen hit him in the chest and didn't touch his head and gets 2 weeks?
What sort of rules are these?

He was charged with a shoulder charge, which is absolutely was. Not a high tackle

Shoulder charges are a legitimate tackling technique. We are a violent sport that's not for everyone and that should be embraced

Mitchell and Sorensen were charged with two different offences. Shoulder Charges attract higher penalties than Dangerous Contact per the judiciary code.

Latrell Mitchell (SOU)

Grade 2 Dangerous Contact

Scott Sorensen (PEN)

Grade 2 Shoulder Charge

.

It's getting a bit ridiculous now. Why do they need to do overboard?

They're sending players to the sinbin where the opposition players didn't even feel the hit. Crazy.

Lord Peter needs to get on the phone with Dana White and chat about promoting a violent sport.
Us viewers love violence and want to watch it, time to be honest. This isn't a sport for everyone.
