I’ve said it many times, my view is that the bunker should be there to stop howlers only, and on that basis, there should be a limit to how many replays they can look at, and I also believe they should not be allowed to use slow-motion or super zoom.
Something like a maximum of 5 replays at normal speed and zoom, and if they can’t see an obvious error, then it goes with the refs decision.
That’s how it should be for tries and captains challenge, and then in terms of serious foul play, they can only go back for stuff the ref missed if there’s a resulting injury/HIA and the same limited replay/zoom rules apply.
The NRL should then get agreement with the broadcasters that they will not show slowmo/super zoom replays to undermine the refs (as that has a negative impact on the game and therefore their product). Get everyone accepting the fact that the game is played at a fast pace and therefore shouldn’t be reffed in slow-mo or super zoom.
i think that really tidies up the game - stops the ridiculously long reviews (like the Canberra one), and stops the media obsession over marginal 50/50 decisions - if it ain’t obvious, it’s play on, and nobody will ever scrutinise it.
