Jesus f***ing christ Newcastle
Guessing it includes NRLW memberships too?
Won 2/3 of the last comps, no doubt would have brought a ton of fans in the last couple of years.
Edit: actually how does that work, if someone has both NRL and NRLW, does that person count twice?

Not trying to be a dick but Wests Newcastle do free knights membership so the numbers are not exactly legit.......

Wests Tigers all over again. Why membership numbers are to be taken with a very large pinch of salt.

Rubbish! Grab all the sign ups you can get!

the only people who care they are not paying are the club finance guy and terminally online whingers.

half the reason for following a team is feeling like you are part of a community. Better to be one of 60k than one of 600.

Whats the problem?

No different than other sports. My son did Woolworths Big Blast cricket this year and was given a choice of free membership to either the Sixers or Thunder.

The AFL visited his school as well & even though he didn't even take part in their clinic, he was offered a free GWS membership.

Unfortunately unless more clubs/sports want to be like Shane Richardson & only announced paid memberships, it's only going to get murkier, especially as sports teams try to use these numbers to help get sponsors & government investment.

Newcastle are owned by Wests leagues which has 149,000.members
.might as well claim them as knight members and become biggest club in country
