2025 preseason Charity Shield - Vs Dragons

No worries mate. I like to think I'm pretty reasonable despite what some who I butt heads with in the political threads might say. Regarding Reyno, even if there were injury concerns he deserved some loyalty from us for all he had done for the club. We didn't show him that loyalty.
All good.

I remember that when the club mentioned his release, the easily led and brainwashed started with their mischievous rumours.

And it was South’s management that rang the broncos to warn them about the shoulder. Renno was upset that act of betrayal. Anyone who had been following his career with affection joined him in that thought.

He’s a leader of men. There’s even talk of extensions and stuff going around this week.

His body may fail one day, but never his character.

What we need is forwards mate Keppie, Moale, Keaon, Tallis all putrid Dodd was on a hiding to nothing. Early second half Jamie could do what he did as the forwards aimed up.

Pete was much better today one of our best.

As for Gee and Atkins we won’t win a game with them this year 6-0 penalty count not one penalty in 80mins. Say no more. Mamozoulos break in second half Humphreys was taken without the ball nope fair game nothing. Mind you I’m not shocked Brock Scheafer is head of refs now.
To ge fair it were not simply the penalties, but also the dodgy, very dodgy turnovers. Every one went to St. Merge every one. Given they had a full deck of starters v. almost practice squad, that was a severe handicap and led to the inevitable.
However, Burt got what he came for in this. He needed to see first hand who can handle A Grade, and who cannot. He will obviously make a lot of changes come season start and from here on, begin roster tweeking. Expect some surprises and gambles from The Man.

Thanks and vice versa.

Id be thinking back in day, Rennos shoulder injury was being discussed in the dark corridors of Chalmers St and the club chieftains where taking advices from so-called medical staff. Quacks and fakers. Too scared to back him in case he broke down. Cowards.

And at the time, he’s one of the best players in the world.

And the next big things, 50/50 success rate.

He’s got a place in the books of one of the games greats. Plus he hung around during the harsh post gf seasons.

People forget he was one of the great young halves of the NRL.

And he wanted to stay for less than market price.
Stop all the nonsense!! Reynolds is passe and he has driven Brisbane backwards. Dodd is new here playing in heat and with an almost practice squad of players. He has proven himself a winner, including over Cleary at Penrith.

From what I've seen this preseason, Mamo and Humphreys are going to be very good for us this year. Wayne will still want more depth at hooker though if Humphreys locks down the halfback spot.

When we get our full complement on the field, we will be very competitive.

Biggest weakness continues to be inability to defend wide shifts. Only answer is to get our top liners on the field at the same time and playing week in, week out with any luck. We're due some luck on the injury front down the track surely.

Trell is 6-8 weeks which means a return in rounds 4-6. AJ, Aitken and Campbell apparently are round 4. Tats anywhere from round 1-4? Cody, Arrow rounds 1-2?

Our best side when all are available after watching the preseason matches is

1 Mitchell
2 AJ
3 Wighton
4 Graham
5 Munro
6 Walker
7 Humphreys
8 Moale
9 Mamo
10 Tatola
11 Keaon
12 Aitken
13 Murray (Arrow/Duncan until late in the season)

14 Gray ( MUST, MUST, MUST be in the side)
15 Havili
16 Keppie
17 Duncan/Arrow

Round 1?
Gray, Myers, Wighton, Tass, Munro, Walker?, Humphreys, Moale, Mamo, Tatola?, Keaon, Le Blanc, Arrow?, Int Havili, Duncan, Keppie, Sullivan - Hubner, Shaq, Dodd, Host, Schuster?

Interesting read speedster .

I haven’t checked, but I’m told Des has been the coach risking the most players in trials while Sticky doesn’t even want to play trials.

You couldn’t seriously put Renno in the same sentence as Dodd atm. That’s enough to get you arrested around here my friend.

I’d suggest you remain silent and call your lawyer.

Both sides used the game for exercise. Murray’s loss is pretty bad, but Wayne will have something up his sleeve.

As for Latrell, he’s back to his usual status of being unavailable. Nothing to see there, the club probably plans for his absence anyway. Crazy not to.

Just a bad twist of fate Murray got the more serious, but I’m not sure about what anyone else thinks, he’s kind on the slippery slope compared to his days as being in the top 3 players in the game.

Jye is a prospect, he’s going to have cover his size and height in other ways.

The darkness hasn’t lifted since Solly bet on the wrong players instead of keeping Renno. You didn’t play to your respect for loyalty and integrity and the karma is killer.

So true TSP..

Mate, I'm all for getting behind Dodd but you are wrong about Reyno. It's not nonsense that we didn't treat him with the respect he deserved. All he wanted was 1 more year on his extension as he has a young family to think about. Given all he had done for the club it really wasn't too much to ask. I always thought we were supposed to be a club that takes care of it's own. We clearly didn't do that with Adam.

Just to deliver some hope to the panel here, my ex rooster junior mate at work, he’s adamant the marquee clubs will face big challenges this season.

He cites rebuilding, age and some valued players hurtling into form oblivion.

He thought his own beloved roosters are not even certainties for the finals this year.

The other thing too, they used to play the charity shield in big venues and some legend players of both clubs got decent time.

From memory, there was a general code of tough but fair. But as we saw, there are still some individual players ( in all sides) having a cheap shot. Lack of discipline.

Another point for you guys, everyone gets excited about their best 17, but on the average, injuries and suspensions will take about 4 out of almost every side.

So these best sides, they don’t exist for long. You just pray your best players don’t end up in harms way.

Dodd got picked up after the post-Renno options failed.

He’s come along at the right time in some ways. I’m more worried about the % increase needed across the board from last year. This is why having Wayne back is extremely fortunate. He’s tried and tested, has built many footballers and coaches as well.

His Redcliffe years were great given his cattle.

Is there a reason why Latrell has to be the number 1? I've been racking my brain to try and justify it and I think the only reason I can think of is that he's on a massive salary. Jye Gray is clearly the future and he is going to be the player that leads us to a premiership.

So if we move Jye Gray to 1 is there any reason that Latrell can't play 6? He doesn't have a high work rate which you need from a fullback, has excellent ball playing skills and has a massive boot on him.

Moving forward I think Latrells best position is 6 or one of the centre spots.

I think trying Trell at 6 definitely has some merit STID.
If you look at the titans they're playing Campbell and Brimson in the halves and Foran at 14 because they know Campbell, Kini and Brimson are the future. I think at some stage we have to do the same with Walker. walker to 14 to play a Benji Marshall style role in our grand final year.

Well he’s got a lot of options other than fullback. I’d prefer to move him about during games and out wider as Robbo used him. Push defence to his side with the occasional bonus he can isolate and break through. He can hold up, pop passes there too, especially over the top for second phase.

As fullback collecting kicks running back etc, the defence has an hour to counter.

The beauty of power is that it brings imminence to the fore.

But I’m not sure he would wear it, we know what he’s like.

Could well be a glimpse into the future but for now, Wayne is the main reason, to answer your question, as to why Latrell has to be the number 1.
