Could have called that a deliberate tap forward, but I’m not sure of the rule.
I think it has to go over an opposing player.
It brings up an interesting point.

The deliberate knock on has gone the way of a voluntary tackle.. it's in the rulebook but never penalised - unlike union which penalises it unless they've changed it in the last decade since I've watched it.

I couldn't find a reference to a deliberate bat forward to gain an advantage in the rule book, but recall at least one major example of it being penalised when Hayne or Benji did it on a chip and chase in a pretty high stakes game from memory. That was over a player.

Unless I've missed the rule, it could only been penalised if deemed not in the spirit of the game? And what bostock did definitely wasn't that so play on. And he didn't knock on, so couldnt be penalised for that.

Edit: Annersely cleared up the interpretation after a lomax try last year (on youtube). He referred a knock on as the same as a knock forward. Which isn't how it's applied in rugby. Given league rules came from rugby, and annersely dribbles a lot nonsense, I'm still unsure given the lomax try was awarded.
