Considering its at Brookvale, I wouldn't back my team with Monopoly money. Traditionally it's the one away venue where we always seem to struggle.

Whoever comes up with the Sea Eagles’ game plan needs to do better. They must have been watching the Bulldogs’ 2023 videos where they could easily be outmuscled and you could knock on the front door before waltzing through. The 2024 and 2025 iterations are a different beast. Opposition forwards and coaches must look at the relatively small size of the Bulldogs forwards and think it’s just a matter of running over the top of them. It doesn’t work.

Anyway , despite these tactics Manly actually did well to only be down 12-4 at half time considering the Bulldogs had a virtually perfect completion rate. And Many left 2 tries on the field. That tap back to Turbo would have been a try 9 times out of ten but unfortunately for Manly supporters this was the tenth time. Also if Saab had the positional sense of Alex Johnston he would have taken that pass and probably scored. Instead he didn’t read what was unfolding in front of him and it went straight into touch.

Manly didn’t get much ball at the right end of the field . And Koula only got early ball twice. On one occasion he skipped through the defence and on the other occasion he cut back towards the posts and looked likely to score . From memory the resulting quick ptb resulted in Sipley being held up. That cut back move towards the posts is the best way to play the Bulldogs because they struggle to gets numbers in the tackle which results in a quick ptb.

Anyway after the incorrect call on the Garrick “forward” pass Manly dropped their heads and in the end ran out of petrol. The Bulldogs always play for 80 minutes and won’t beat themselves.

Both the Manly and Roosters’ defence is vulnerable in the same area. When the Bulldogs played the Roosters , twice Xerri cut back towards the posts and went through tired defenders to score. He scored an identical try against Manly. Harry Grant’s effort against Manly was a carbon copy, denied due to a NAS elbow. So Whyte, Leniu , Jake T and Lodge may be targeted.

The cross kick to Tupou and early ball to Mark Mark should be on the Roosters’ agenda. For Manly it should be early ball to Koula and Turbo. Wingers from both teams should figure in the tries.

As for the result , it’s too hard to pick since both teams are so inconsistent. It will come down to “who wants it more”. And there’s no more annoying comment for supporters of a losing team than “the other team just wanted it more” served up by a losing coach or player.

I’ll raise you the Kevin Junee/Johnny Mayes Cup

I suspect Mayes will be mentioned on Saturday night at the ground after this news from earlier today -

The battle of the birds makes me want to give Nable and Fox League the bird.
Both clubs don't deserve to make the finals so I hope it's a draw.

No idea. Both have had disappointing seasons so far.

Manly reeling after melting to the Bulldogs blowtorch. Leaning towards the Roosters by 12.
