If he isnt tackled mid air he either still falls on the ground and a hand is laid on him, or he lands on his feet and the broncos player in front of him has a crack at a ball and all tackle.

Horrendous reasoning too. "In our opinion he would have scored a try as he gets to the line anyway"... he only got there cause he promoted the ball illegally.

like what is a player meant to do just let him catch the ball and let him score, the fact that you can’t even attempt to tackle the player is a joke.

Yeh i think Marzhew had one last year on maybe the warriors. It was probably the most obvious case of a penalty try youd ever seen, but they didnt award it. He may have got binned still, cant remember.

EDIT: it was against DWZ and he wasn't even binned.

The rules are simple. You can't tackle a player jumping to take a kick in the air. So yes, a player is meant to just let him catch the ball. After that it's up to the skill of the defender if he scores.

Actually it is that simple if you’re able to get hold of the ball it’s open season to tackle that person. just look what happened now the refs just awarded it anyway….

Should have been a penalty try really, especially given Marzhew never has eyes for the ball and makes contact before he even gets the ball.

But I also hate blanket banning legitimate tackles instead of just punishing the ones that go wrong. It's funny listening to the Annesley audio there because he even referenced a fan-held suspicion at the time that the tackle in the air penalty was pure optics and they weren't actually ever going to award penalty tries for them. Well it only took them another year to prove that wrong... unless there was one in between I'm forgetting.

Rule is broken, the whole point of it is to stop players being flipped onto their head. Grabbing on to a jumping player to stop their forward momentum or stop a ball being grounded is not dangerous
