Reed Mahoney lives rent free in the mind of opposition coaches and players .His job is to unsettle opposition players. Particularly those with short fuses and there are a few in Souths’ lineup. Opposition players are too keen to take the bait and consequently lose focus on what they should be trying to do ie win matches. He’s Mick Ennis 2.1. Wayne will know that it’s a waste of time for his players to be involved in shenanigans like that and will instruct his players to ignore Mahoney.

Teams have to prepared to grind for 80 minutes to beat the Bulldogs. As soon as they look for easy options or short cuts they’ll come up short. I think teams see the smaller size of the Bulldogs’ forwards and they try to break down the front door. But the Bulldogs will lap that up.

Chad Townsend mentioned in a podcast last year that the Cowboys target the space next to Crighton’s left shoulder and had some success. Manly did the same the following week in the elimination match. Apart from an Adam Reynolds type short kicking game from Walker there aren’t really any other ways of breaking down the Bulldogs’ defence. Montoya has improved this year but still may be caught rushing in off his wing or making a random handling error.

The Bulldogs are the real deal this year. Their defence has improved but not as much as their attack. They’re quite capable of racking up 30 plus points against most opposition. Bulldogs by 20.

The Dolphins heads up footy on display last night is the only type of attack that can trouble the Bulldogs.
