Souths have gone down 22-26 in another close game today to Penrith. We scored 4 tries to their 5.
Depth is heavily stretched with a bunch of Blacktown Ron Massey Cup guys playing in the Cup team today.
At least we won the one that counted - the 1st grade game of course.

I thought we'd get completely towelled up in both grades today but lost narrowly in both. Seems like the players are doing a lot of the little things right and not dropping their heads when they're behind on the scoreboard.

The cavalry should be on it's way shortly.

The reserve grade side would be interesting to see at full strength. They also are missing so many players… Lovett, burns, Mellars, McCarthy, shaq, schuster…
Sullivan would drop back down
As would a few forwards… Leblanc, Havili even Hubner or Duncan would find themselves there is a grade was at full strength

Unfortunately the HM boys went down in a close one to the Wahs, 18-20. The boys now slip to 7th and face the 14h placed Bulldogs in the final round match next week. So, with a good performance, the boys should still find themselves in the finals.

Meanwhile, our high flying SB Ball side drew 16-all with the lowly Wahs which was disappointing. The boys though are still running 2nd and also play the Dogs in their final round match up next week who are currently 8th and will be desperate to make the finals so hopefully our boys don't show any complacency as you don't want to go into the finals on the back of a drop off of form.

We can have high hopes of our SG Ball side doing something special this year but there's still a long way to go.

I never said we should rely only on our nursery and not bring in others from elsewhere. You've read into my comments incorrectly.

I said, we have our own nursery so we don't have to do what they do. But we do actually also bring in kids from outside of our nursery as well and should continue to without a doubt. I just don't want to be like the Roosters. Doesn't sit well.

Tight Games the Order of the Day for Pathways This Weekend – South Sydney Rabbitohs

The Rabbitohs male pathways team all played very tight matches resulting in one draw and three losses this weekend against the Panthers and Warriors, whilst the female pathways teams turned in stronger efforts against Raiders outfits on Sunday.

Some nice tries in the video highlights including a classy grubber from Dodd for Myers to chase and score. Unfortunately, Dodd was not listed amongst the best players overall in the summation though.

Game’s Greatest Rivalry Continues in Pathways While Junior Reps Play Final Games – South Sydney Rabbitohs

The greatest rivalry in Australian sport between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters will continue at Redfern Oval on Sunday 6 April with the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup games to be contested on the Rabbitohs’ hallowed turf.

Mellars has been selected in JF again this week despite coming off early with more hammy issues last start. I guess they're managing him through his comeback to try and make sure it gets stronger and fully recovers. Fingers crossed he can play a full game this week.

Great news for the HM under 17s side - they've won their final round match away against the Bulldogs by 30-18 and are into the finals where they will finish either 7th or 8th at worst. They will play an elimination final next week against an opponent yet to be decided.

Meanwhile the SG Ball boys were already locked into a top 4 spot and it looks like they've let complacency slip into their minds because they went down to the Bulldogs 28-30 who appear to have snuck into the top 8 as a result.

Souths will now finish 3rd on the ladder and will play the 2nd placed Raiders in a Qualifying final. Hopefully they will bounce back to their best because a drop off in form coming into finals isn't the best prep.

But good luck to both boys teams as they head into finals footy next up! Well done to both sides! They're making us proud!

Interesting team news - apparently Declan Casey is back and has taken a wing spot from Max Lehmann today. I assume he has belatedly accepted a 2nd tier contract after failing to make the NRL squad in the preseason.

I also half expect Lewis Dodd to be a late scratching for today's game to keep him on ice for a likely first grade club debut next week after the Humphreys hammy injury on Friday night.

We'll see.

Roosters prove too good for Rabbitohs

Sydney Roosters have claimed their third win of the season in Round Five of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup with a 24-10 victory over rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs at Redfern Oval on Sunday afternoon.

South Sydney opened up the scoring with a well worked try down the left edge when Carson Kaho Lewis Dodd found Declan Casey Carson Kaho outside him and dived over with ease. The conversion was waved away. (4-0)

Roosters bounced back in the 20th minute courtesy of their halfback Jake Elliott who threw a tidy dummy to cut through the line and crash over for a try. His halves partner Josh Durkin converted the try to put the Roosters ahead. (6-4)

The away side scored back-to-back tries to extend their lead over South Sydney courtesy of a crash play from Lafi Tuinauvai. The front rower steamrolled past several Rabbitohs defenders to score his first try for the Roosters. (12-4)

Souths bounced back after the break with a scrappy try to get back in the contest. Lewis Dodd threw a cutout pass to his fullback Terrell Kalo Kalo who zipped past several Roosters players before dropping kicking the ball. The ball was then scooped up by Daniel O’Donnell who sneaked himself a try. (12-10)

Roosters responded with another try to extend their lead through Tyreece Tait. Fullback Owen Flaherty found Tait out wide with space and the speedy winger dived into the corner to score. Durkin nailed the conversion to extend the Roosters lead out to eight points. (18-10)

The away side scored another two tries to further extend their lead over South Sydney courtesy of Ethan Roberts. The young forward scored from a crash play of his own to score his first try for the club. (24-10)

Roosters walked away from the Round Five clash with a 24-10 victory, securing back-to-bacl wins for the first time this season and subsequently extending the Rabbitohs losing streak to four games in a row.

Talking Points

• A late reshuffle from the Roosters moved Jake Elliott from hooker to the halves and was invaluable to the Roosters win. The young half kicked well to steer his team to victory and scored a try.
• The battle was won through the middle for the Roosters with Taylor Losalu dominating opposition players with strong carries and making big metres.
• Rabbitohs outside back Terrell Kalo Kalo had himself a solid game filling in at fullback providing some great runs and playmaking out the back.

Key Moment

South Sydney had all the momentum in the opening twenty minutes of the game as they dominated field position but it was Jake Elliott who stepped up to score himself a try and turnaround the lead. The Roosters went on to score another three tries to secure the two points.

Junior Reps Head to Finals; NSW Cup Plays First Leg of Mario Fenech Cup​

The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup teams are playing in week one finals matches this weekend in their pursuit of premiership success, whilst the NSW Cup team will play in the first leg of the Mario Fenech Cup for 2025 against the North Sydney Bears.
The third-placed South Sydney Rabbitohs’ SG Ball Cup under 19s men’s team has qualified for the finals for the first time since 2021, and the seventh-placed South Sydney Rabbitohs Harold Matthews Cup under 17s boys’ team has qualified for the finals for the first time since 2019. This is the first time since 2015 that both the SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup teams have both qualified for the finals.
The SG Ball Cup team will play in a qualifying final against the second-placed Canberra Raiders outfit at HE Laybutt Sporting Complex on Sunday 13 April at 1pm. The winner of this match will move straight through to the preliminary finals with the loser of this match to play in week two of the finals in an elimination semi-final.
The Harold Matthews Cup team will take on the sixth-placed Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in an elimination final on Sunday 13 April at 11:30am at HE Laybutt Sporting Complex. The winner of this match will move forward to a week two finals appearance in an elimination semi-final, however the loser of this match will be eliminated from the finals.
The round six NSW Cup fixture will be played at Industree Group Stadium in Gosford on Sunday 13 April at 3pm in the third iteration of the Mario Fenech Cup. The Rabbitohs will be looking to take the lead in the race for the Mario Fenech Cup with a win in this game, with the winner determined by the aggregate scores across both regular season matches played each season.
In round six, the Rabbitohs’ Jersey Flegg Cup under 21s men’s team will play the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park on Sunday 13 April at 11:30am as a curtain raiser to the Storm vs Warriors NRL game.
