Not sure it's actually set in stone, but the game would look silly if it backtracked now..I'd rather it went to South Africa than Oz in 2025 after this year..lol

yes it is

North America has been given the go-ahead to host the 2025 World Cup.

The USA and Canada will host the tournament after the Rugby League International Federation endorsed the recommendation of its board to take the 17th World Cup outside the sport’s traditional heartland for the first time.

The RLIF chairman, Nigel Wood, who is also chief executive of the Rugby Football League, said: “The award of the 2025 World Cup to North America is a historic moment in the global development of rugby league.

“The USA and Canada provide world class stadia allied to a significant multi-cultural population, which made the bid so persuasive.

“It is exciting that our sport is expanding into a new destination for our premier event, the World Cup, and we will work … to expand the presence of our sport in these countries during the lead-in to the 2025 World Cup.”

The decision was made at the RLIF annual meeting in Liverpool, where Wood and Australia’s John Grant were re-elected as chairman and deputy chairman respectively for the next two years.

Looks very promising in North America ! Hope it all comes to fruition. The code deserves a break and significant expansion.

Well, as long as it's set in stone, I'm happy for it to be in North America..

Due to the nature of my work, I became aware of a small International women's Football tournament that was played in the Western states of the US earlier this year using MLS stadiums.

They were getting around 9000-15,000 crowds but they were 'you beaut' stadiums. I can only presume given the nature of USRL that the 2025 RLWC matches will be on the East coast but if the MLS stadium are as good as the West coast ones and they can come close to filling them, it'll look bloody good..

The plan is to hold the World Cup in Canada and the USA, not just the USA alone. Given that north American professional development has already begun only in Canada, and is being driven by a Canadian marketing genius named Eric Perez, that makes sense.

The games need to be held in cities where there is a professional club rugby league structure. At the moment that is only Toronto, Canada. But plans are afoot to add professional clubs in New York, and perhaps Montreal, Boston or Philadelphia. If those clubs come into reality, and are playing in Super League by 2024 (which is planned) then the World Cup will have 4-5 big cities to hold the event. It could be a magnificent boost for the game in North America.

Fiji games in California

Over 19,000 Fijians based there (out of 32k Fijians in US) as of 2010 US Cencus (US 7s gets big support by Fijians).

Cali also has a large amount of Tongans - 13k. And over 60k Australians

From what's been informed it looks as though North America is well and truelly ready to enjoy rugby league. Perhaps long overdue in many places around the world and definitely the Americas!

Yes it is but Toronto’s ground not available for that round so they are going to play their regular season game against Toulouse at the magic weekend as an extra game. It will be first game on. I like it, gives some good exposure to two potential future SL clubs.

Nice! This is actually a good idea by the RFL - hopefully it captures a bit of extra media attention for the Magic Weekend and RL
