Glebe result was 40-8 (10 tries to 2 - no goal-kicking). Bar TV didn’t record two of them for some reason so reported 32-8 but was 40. It was basically Shield and Massey trials back-to-back/combined.

Is there still a points based system in RMC?
There is a point system in every open age grade of rugby league played in NSW except NSW Cup. There are also restrictions of the level of movement of players between clubs in age grade comps in Junior Leagues.

The 5 players who played both RMC and NRL during last season – Kit Laulilli & Tim Johannsen (Ryde Eastwood), Lorenzo Mulitalo & Jake Tago (Wenty) and Lipoi Hopoi (Canterbury) – represents the most in a season since 2008, when Shellharbour Marlins were a direct feeder to the St George-Illawarra NRL team.

St George had decided not to enter the NSW Cup comp that year but the original intention was to allocate all those not selected for NRL to the Illawarra clubs, which had quite a strong competition in those days. Initially only 2 journeymen were sent to Shellharbour – Jon Green, who played the full season bar 1 game for St George, having played 6 games for the Bulldogs in the previous 2 seasons, but was more a regular at the Sharks in the following 5 seasons, and Joe Falemaka, who never played NRL.

After losses to Belrose and Mounties, the Marlins received Ben Ellis, who was dropped from NRL after round 4, as well as Frank Samia, another who never played NRL. In Round 10, Wendell Sailor’s drug suspension expired and he signed autographs for an hour in Windsor Leagues Club after his first game. He stayed for 3 games and when he went into the NRL, Matt Prior came in for 3 games. For 9 consecutive games they had 4 top 30 players in the team and the last of those games the beat the leaders, Sydney Bulls 26-18 and the Marlins were then only 1 point behind new leaders, Mounties.

But as players returned to the NRL they started to lose games but they flogged Erina, with a side that included mid season transfer, Ben Rogers, who is the only player to date to play for 2 NRL clubs and a 3rd tier club in the same season.

The top 5 were well clear of the remainder, with 5th placed Shellharbour finishing 6 points in front of Erina, and Wenty, who had players diverted to NSW Cup in their first season in that comp could do no better than 7th of 12.

By the semis Shellharbour were back the original 2 St George players but beat Cabra, who took Branighan into the game when he was on 1 leg and paid the price. The following week an excellent first half saw the Marlins in front at the break but Mounties finished too strong.

5 players played NRL that season, with 4 of those in the quarter final team and at least 7 top 30 players played in the team with different combinations of 4 playing in half the games. In the Marlins first season they won only 2 games, but 4 or 5 of those players were with the club in NSW Cup the following season as they developed well playing with full time players.

Brisbane based and no personal link to Glebe ... just wanted to support one of the original clubs of Australia.

As far as I can tell Glebe has a relationship/ affiliation with Sydney Roosters.

Others connections I believe are;

* Penrith Brothers - Panthers

* Blacktown Workers - Bunnies

* Cabramatta - Eels

* Ryde Eastwood - Wests Tigers (via Western Suburbs Magpies ?)

* St. Mary's - Panthers

* Wentworthville / Wentworthville United - Eels

* Moorebank. - Bulldogs

The Canterbury and Manly teams links to the NRL clubs is assumed.

Not sure about the links for Mounties and Hills District.

Happy to be corrected on any of the above.

On a side issue, it would be great to see a traditional game between Glebe and Fortitude Valley in Brisbane. Original clubs of Sydney and Brisbane respectively.

Half the Hills team are from North Sydney. This relationship has been in place for several years. This year North Sydney also have a link to Mounties but this round only North Sydney player went to Mounties.

The Score in the SS game between Cabra and Mounties was 38-12. The Bar TV highlights show that Jake Stig ran about 40 metres to score Mounties 3rd try in the 70th minute. The NSWRL guy on the computer must have been adjusting his umbrella and missed the try and the unsuccessful conversion.

Chris Yates has successfully moulded a competitive team in Cabramatta’s first year back in RMC. His first round team included 3 players from Cabra’s 2024 SS team, and Yates has assembled the following – Kayne Kalache (Mounties), James Valevatu (Wests Magpies), Harrison Leonard (Central Qld Capras), Ryan Garner, Bruce Ward, Tangi Hokai (Ryde Eastwood), Arthur Melham (Brothers), Cooper Smith & Jackson Blatch (Oakdale Workers), Liam Davidson (Wenty), Nathan Vaeluga (Moorebank), Lachlan Whitehouse (Brothers SS) and Sione Manakofua (Eastwood RU).

AKR reserve has always had full sized ingoals with plenty of space available but someone decided to reduce them to 5 metres this season, so in a SS trial, Cameron Davis ran dead attempting to move closer to the posts for the conversion. In the RMC game yesterday, just before half time, Tom Menzies grubbered and dived on the ball but it was inches over the deal ball line. Cabra took the 25 restart, worked the ball down field and Bruce Ward crashed over after the half time hooter – a 12 point turnaround – more than the winning margin.

Clearly the best game of the round was Glebe vs Hills. Glebe scored first but every time they did Hills responded in kind, until finally with 12 minutes to go, Toetu’u made a long run to score and give Hills the lead. Glebe wasn’t done and struck twice in the last 10 to take the points. Hills have seen the return of Jason Baiteri ti his junior club following the completion of his Super League and International career. Dom Reardon (Terrigal), Fabian Goodall (Eastwood Rugby) and Tali Toetu’u (Mascot) have also come on board whilst former player, Rhys Sciglitano (Riverstone) was listed on Tuesday but did not play in either grade. The North Sydney contingent included Fred & Vili Pupu from St Marys.

Ryde has lost a lot of players to other clubs but the new batch played some good football to put Wenty to the sword. The new recruits included Jirah Momoisea & Bailey Cox (Bulldogs), Callum Ellis, Lachlan Poko & Adam Fearnley (Glebe) and Simon Tito (Hills) plus a few from the Magpies squad. Marco Moretti (South Sydney) and Kyle Cassel (Wenty) did not play.

Penrith Brothers looked very good when they ran up an 18-0 lead in the first 20 minutes despite butchering a certain try. The never gave the Bulldogs a sniff conceding a late try. Apart from Jesse Sene-Lefao, the no real standouts but Jake Foster has the gelling as a unit.

When Blacktown the ball from the kickoff and St Marys scored after 50 seconds, the worse scenario looked feasible but St Marys were very poor in the first half with dropped ball and a casual approach, exemplified when a pass directed to the linesman, was flicked back into play by Tavita, allowing Tapuai to run 30 metres unchallenged for Blacktown to even the score. A penalty goal meant Blacktown led 8-6 after 18 minutes and after a length of the field run by Villar, the Workers were 12-18 at half time. St Marys played more like you would expect in the 2nd half, running in 8 tries. South Sydney provided only 2 players – Lawrence Ngatikaura, who has played 44 games in NSW Cup and Jordan Plath, who is yet to debut in Cup.
