How does reach work ? Do you only have to watch 1 seceond to get counted ?

And how long do you need to watch for to be counted as part of the average ? It used to be 15 minutes ?

Think 90 seconds

But they did hang around for a bit or the average would be way lower

they keep putting south africa games on during the afl/nrl finals series. the second nz game last year was not only from NZ but on AFL grand final day

Average: you’re counted in the minutes you watch, and the final figure is an average of all minutes.

So why is reach used as a metric ?

If a viewer is only watching 1 minute thats not long enough to sell to advertisers ?

Because the tv channels and advertisers don’t agree. This has been discussed to death here. I’m pretty sure we are the only people in Australia who really care about this.

I think from next year afl need to have 3 games on simultaneously on fta so the aggregate ratings will match up with one nrl game

I remember when the nrl would have two Friday night games tailored to local markets and afl fans would whinge that it shouldn’t be coded as a single broadcast when it was two games on at once. How times have changed…
