For those nominating Souths, quick question has Wayne ever won a Wooden Spoon in the NRL?
Probably only after he left such is the effect he has on clubs

I see St George as real contenders for the spoon. Flanagan is a decent coach but while his son is there its a strong possibility they will struggle. Also the last time Bennet told someone he didn't want them but they were def a first grader it was Nikorima (the one that went to the Roosters and he was crap) so I would not be hanging too many hope on Illias either

Murray is a big loss but there is enough juice in the rest of that pack.

Tatola
Arrow
Koloamatangi
Keppie
Duncan

Really, thats not a great pack at all. Duncan has the world at his feet and will be great, but just rile him up and he will lose it. Keppie was outstanding, at being an absolute dud last year. The others can do some good things, but have some poor decision making at times .
Bennett may inspire them but Souffs forward pack have been poor for a while which has been mirrored in Cooke struggling

Its a combination of factors that make it hard for their pack. All the things mentioned previously (Low kick return metres, kicking metres and a massive injury toll) as well as off-field dramas.

Just get some small improvements in those areas and they are a shoo-in for the 8. Spoon talk is crazy IMO.

Can't help the injury toll but Wayne has brought in Graham Arnold as a kicking coach so that should help with the kicking metres.

I think the Knights are in a bit of strife especially if ponga goes down.

That article on the knights by Riccio seems to be a hit job on O"Brien and the internal unrest bubbling away up there.

Still no further to deciding there halves combo.

Leo Thompson is gone at the end of the year once the season becomes out of reach does he check out.

Someone is already leaking to media and I see red flags when that stuff happens at footy clubs so early in the season.

Look, as a Knights fan we’re always a chance at getting the spoon. For whatever reason when things go bad for us they seem to go very very bad very quickly so it’s always a chance.

However, the media hit piece by Riccio isn’t a new thing. There are hit pieces on the Knights ALL the time and basically all through the end of last season and they still made the finals. We’re in the midst of a re-build. Of course it’s going to get leaked that players are being tapped on the shoulder. Their managers need to get them contracts.

Ponga’s also been out for basically half the season the past 2 years and they still made the finals, including 4 in a row without him last year. It’s not like a Moses/Eels situation where we can’t win without him. It’s not pretty but they can get the job done.

Sure we’re a good chance of a spoon, but no more so than recent years. The club and especially AOB are just easy targets.

We're a massive chance for the spoon. We're a hugely top-heavy squad, and the top is all injured, or only coming back from long-term injury in the early rounds.

Bar half a dozen players we're basically NSW Cup standard now.

I really hope so, but the faith was lost after last season. Expect the worst!

Nothing wrong with their pack. They are doing the right things with yardage. They just couldn't sort out their attack in the 20.

Metcalf will fix that.
