This Year?

Anyone see the Panthers getting off the bottom?

They might have a win or two left in them yet.
Still have 2 games left against each of Eels, Knights and Tigers. If they can find the gears they could get a few wins there.
If it gets close they're pretty much guaranteed a win in rd 27 too.

To be fair to the ‘riff the Titans, Knights and Eels are all only ahead of them because they’ve all had a bye already. My money is on the Knights, they’re just a lifeless shell of a footy team.

That we make the most errors and still have a reasonable PA suggests our defence is ok. But yeah, we look like we've never seen a football in our lives most weeks.

Hot contenders
Knights, Titans, Dragons, Dolphins

Should have the talent to avoid it but have an implosion in them
Eels, Tigers, Souths

would take a disaster
Sea Eagles, Roosters, Cowboys,

Mathematically possible but no
Broncos, Panthers

Could declare now, they have enough runs on the board
Every teams with 6+ wins

Titans on 12 with Knights, Wests, Parra and Souths all on 14. I think souths will well and truly get themselves clear by the end of the season as their draw softens and troops return. Cowboys on 15 points might be the team in the worst form at the moment.

Key fixtures in the last 4 rounds

R24
Souths v Parra
Cowboys v Knights

R25
Wests v Cowboys

R27
Titans v Wests
Parra v Knights

Knights only need 1 or 2 more wins to put them in a position where the spoon is generally avoided. Knights had 8 wins in 2005 and 2015 which are the most in the nrl era (Penrith also did it in 2007). Given how the comps going though, it might work out similar this year.

Shame about Sharpe, but other than him and Elliott, they'll be near full strength after their rnd18 bye.

If they can jag at least 1 win over their difficult stretch coming up (raiders x2, storm, warriors), that should hopefully be enough to avoid it. Lose all 4 and they'll be in the mix, even with their 2 byes.

Other than the Titans, dragons seem like a likely contender. Already had 3 byes, a lot of negative media at the moment, so a few more injuries and it could be a long end to the season.

Yes true, the Knights and souths both have 6 wins and two more guaranteed points to come than Cowboys, Wests, Parra and titans.

Good shout on the dragons too, I missed the fact they have had 3 byes and only 5 wins. That puts them right there int he danger zone.

Both Manly and Penrith have the same amount of wins as souths/knights too so the bye really is playing havoc at the moment.

Some real non ball knowers getting around this thread

For future reference, you should never tip the Wahs or Raiders for the spoon. Even when those teams are shit and untalented, their forward packs are usually good enough to avoid the spoon, they both have good home field advantages and both teams are usually largely unimpacted by SOO and can stack wins in that period where others struggle. They also get the benefit of no one in the national media giving a shit about them which i think does negative impact higher profile teams who are shit.

Those teams would have to be generationally shit to win the spoon. They'd have to be considerably less talented than either the peak Tigers or Knights teams of recent memory which were repeat spoon winners

As for this year, i think the knights will actually benefit from the Sharpe injury, not that he's not a good player, it disgusts me as a generational knights hater how much i love him and Dyl Lucas. Great players
But Sharpe's a fullback and i reckon they'll be much better with 2 actual halves on the field, even shit ones, and then playing shape off that, so i reckon they're safe

The dragons are pretty shit but Flanno teams usually have enough base level toughness to win a respectable amount of games. If Latrell stays healthy, i think he alone wins the Bunnies enough games. Same with Moses and the Eels, as long as he stays healthy when he gets back. I think tigers play hard enough now that they too will snag some wins.

Cowboys are my smokey. Going like a busted arse, the Purdue move to the halves and Dearden to 7 is probably good long term but its not working right now and they're probably close to a coach firing. Could blow up badly. Between them and the Titans imo

Have you seen the dragons draw? I doubt they start favourites in any game after this week.

I dont think Wests are playing anywhere near the bottom of the ladder however losing is a hard habit to kick. We have the Cows at Leichhardt, Titans twice and Manly twice which are the most winnable games.

Our Top 17 is decent enough but issue for us is our depth is disgusting. Missing Jaheam Bula for a month is catastrophic.

Titans and Tigers will lead the charge in 2025. Dolphins and Knights in the next bracket. Roosters the smokey.

Just depends who wants it more. It's not easy to win a wooden spoon.

Looks pretty accurate to me. As good as the Dolphins have been injuries will once again catch up with them. They don't have a great deal of depth.

This really is an exceptional season. We've got the large number of teams vying for the spoon. The next few weeks will be crucial.

Its time that guys like Payten, Seibold and Flanagan really step up their game if they want to be in with a chance. The current bottom 4 have well and truly earned the right to be in the hunt. Winning a spoon isn't easy at all.

I think it depends on who we replace him with. Gamble and we’re probably ok. Go for Hastings (which I think we might with Gamble’s injuries) and I fear it will be more of the case of the Roosters game where 3/4 of the spine was just too slow and un-athletic to get the ball anywhere. Gamble’s not great but he does his job.

Im pretty bummed about Sharpe’s injury. Not just because it’s a horrific one, but he was just starting to find his feet more in the halves imo. We were never doing anything this year but the more runs he got on the board there the better. Although at this point like most Knights fans I just hope this kid’s ok medically.

Winning a spoon isn't easy at all.

Tigers and Knights beg to differ lol.

Yeah I did forget about the dragons.

They would want to get at a least 2 wins against Parra, Cowboys, Souths, Sharks and Manly otherwise they are in big danger.

The Tigers are a different story.

They are one of the best worst clubs of all time. Its honestly incredible that they are contention for a spoon again. Even with their recruitment and positive start to the season they've somehow found a way to stay in the hunt.

The Lachlan Galvin contract saga was a masterstroke. Prior to that Tigers fans would have been pretty worried but social media bullying was a brilliant move. Throw in the signing of Taylan May. I can't applaud the Tigers club enough.

The Tigers 4-peat would be up there for sure. There probably isn't another club in the competition capable of that.
