The 23,002 figure was announced on ABC Radio's coverage of the match.

According to them, that is the official capacity figure and today was a "complete sell out". As such we're unlikely to see any crowd above this figure.

It’s a shame this year when the knights are going good they are capacity restricted by a couple thousand or more
I know their form is so good and they and they could’ve filled the old capacity

Still good days for them right now

If the Knights are coming into some form and that upper deck is out of action they should get some temporary seating at the top of the hills to get the capacity back up. NRL should pitch in to cover the costs and help sue the government for the reduced capacity in the stands.

Honestly for a while there the were basically THE big Sydney club. Their home crowds might not have been massive but they basically had the best away crowds wherever they played (even out of state). It’s shocking how much the brand has been eroded the last 10-15 years or so.

Can’t just blame form either. Other teams like the tigers and Parra have been worse but haven’t suffered nearly the same dropoff.
I tend to line up fanbases among age groups with periods of success. If a team has a period of success then they are likely to win a heap of younger fans. Dragons would have picked up a ton of older boomer fans (checks out with my personal experience) - this has given them a massive fan base for decades, however many of these folk moving into their 70s and 80s now - probably not all a game attending age.

Probably means they’d need to start finding that next generation of fan - something they’ve not really needed to do for a while.

Agree they need to seek compensation from stadium owners for neglect costing them higher gates

Good crowd though would expect more for a sellout. Great to see the knights in form. Get Newcastle a stadium with a bigger capacity and we could absolutely challenge for 2nd best crowds in the league.
you understand why the sellout was 23k yeah?

It is a bad time for it to happen (I still dont know what the issue is) as Newcastle suddenly has two good sports teams which should be attracting 30k crowds.
The Jets should host the A-League final there.

Using a 25,000 approximate for Titans-Broncos - hopefully official figure is known today - the round is at ~150,635 (~21,519 per game)

The last three Easter Monday games have been 26, 28 and 28k.

A 27k crowd would see the round finish around 177600 (average ~22200).
I've got it slightly lower at 149,645 using 10,023; 49,813; 20,204; 8,491; 25,000; 13,112; 23,002 .

edit: flipping the 8491 to 9481 gets it to 150,635.

It has been hard to get a handle on exactly how many seats are out of use. At first the report was 1200 seats, then I think I read 26K capacity. If that’s a sellout crowd that’s closer to 6-7K seats which is pretty shit for the knights.

But yes to answer your question I did know why.

Something to do with the roof and safety inspectors requiring it be fixed. The jets can barely get over 10k when they are playing well they’re not affected. The jets would host the final if they qualified in first

Where do I start?

- Board instability and joint venture complications?
- Lack of long-term strategic continuity?
- Stadium issues?
- Lack of fan and community engagement?
- Marketing and social media?

I went to a Red V members forum in January where they opened up the change rooms at Kogarah for 50 members for a Q+A with the coach and CEO.

I found the new CEO really impressive and he basically identified a lot of those issues.
- Club was an old boys club (I had a mate working in sponsorships who said it was boozy lunches every day). He's come in and basically turned over the whole back of office staff.
- Identified social media and engagement as a huge area for improvement. Brought in people from social media companies. I'm not on it but friends have said the content on fb and ig has definitely improved.
- Identified they were working on long time stadium issues and expect announcements soon. Then we saw the WIN 17m feasibility study and the Kogarah 15 year master plan. I don't think Kogarah is getting two new stands but at least they are trying.
- Said the 5-5-2 split for this year is most likely an ongoing thing. The corporates at Allianz is too good to pass up. Said our sponsorships, gate takings, jersey sales etc are similar to the big Sydney clubs but we get killed on corporates.
- Said expect a lot more of these fan things. Opening up the new centre of excellence for a fan opening, members meet and greets etc.
- Said they are a lot more professional in their negotiations with players these days. Stuff won't be getting leaked through the media and we are constantly looking to improve the roster as they know it needs to be.

I'm a St George based fan who has been a member at Kogarah for over 20 years but I can see a world where we only play 1 or 2 games there a year. I know it will piss off the R2K brigade but the state government isn't putting in money when it isn't state owned and we only play 5 games a year there at most.

Speaking of roofs, how good is the one at Commbank at protecting the lower tier in the rain?

Some persistent and annoying showers today in Sydney. Hope it doesn’t stop a near record crowd from showing up.

That’s a cracker of a post

Dragons have some great influencers on tik tok who they should embrace even if they are critical of the club their videos are hilarious and they love the red v big time
