The target hosts for the next 2 World Cups according to Troy Grant.

Whilst a Pacific World Cup is something I’d like to see you’d have to wonder if they could make it profitable. Mentions hosting games in NZ and potentially Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Hawaii & Australia. PNG would be a given too I assume but not mentioned.

USA pops it’s head up again too, he admits they wanted it for 2029. Not sure 4 years is going to make much of a difference but good luck to them.

It really depends on the corporate and Government support. If the organising committee run it like the current world cup moving forward where Government and corporate money ensure that its not a loss maker then yes. France, then NZ/Pacific, then USA in a row could really hurt the finances if not done right.

On a positive note, the Pacific is there for RL to take from Union. The Pacific or NZ will never host a RUWC in the future and the Pacific nations in RU will never be a chance of winning the RUWC whereas they can in RL

What would be the benefits of helping the game in the USA?

Playing devils advocate, let's say in the next decade a professional comp starts and they have some success. They would have more money than the nrl or esl and could then pillage all the top talent. The NRL and esl would become a feeder comps to the usa. I guess on a positive they could also take Unions top players leaving them devoid of stars.

At the moment it's pie in the sky stuff but who knows what will happen in the next decade.

I don't think the level will get to ESL on field. Off the field though it could be the corporate support that gets more internationals played particularly for lesser countries

Yes I`ve always said that myself, ` be careful what you wish for `. Can you imagine a situation where Australia relies on the heritage rule to have American based Aussies playing for Oz to make up our best international side. That`d be ironic. A little way off fortunately and I`m sure it`ll be when all our heads have stopped hurting as an octogenarian uncle likes to say to me.
On the other hand, can you imagine all the American athletes that would be then become available for the Australasian competition.

Will never happen, The sport will never have a huge following over there

A 3rd professional comp, A few players in ESL or NRL is the realistic outcome. Which for the sport will be a huge achievement

` Huge ` is a relative term. Our code does nicely dovetail with their NFL and if we can get some profile through the gambling who knows where that could lead.

Couldn't Rugby Union say the same thing?

They currently have 1.4m players. Their professional comp has 11 teams,

That is the levels RL realistically can achieve over the next 20 years or so

But we all know that their game is an awful viewing experience that pretty well struggles anywhere at club level and is only propped up by international rivalries. League offers a product that is far more palatable on a weekly basis.
If we get that over the next 20 years then that would be an absolute game changer.

Yeah but most people in USA wouldn't even know the difference between the 2, Getting over that is the 1st hurdle

A successful Rugby comp in the USA would be a big threat to the NRL and ESL, they could pick off the top talent.
I guess if a code is going to have success it's more likely to be league, Pro Rugby has hardly captured the Americans attention ( crowds of 1k per game )

The Soviets and Americans had the race to the moon...League and Union can have the race to the USA :D

Union are having the 2031 world cup in the USA so it looks like they'll beat us yet again.

Depends on the money behind it, This TV deal you are going to have players on $1.5m contracts.
If we are talking 10-15 years down the track. Certainly will be over $2m, I am happy to lose some talent if there is the money involved to compete with that.

The game will be in a very good spot if that ever happens

Be great to see a PI/NZ hosting a RLWC but not sure financially or logistically it works with the RLWC now being so big. It'd have to include Aus but as we saw in 2017 Aus really isnt that interested.

Agreed, It sounds good in theory but what would be the gate on a game held in Samoa, Tonga or Fiji ?
I'm guessing there is a reason Union rarely play there ?

I'm guessing NZ, Aust, PNG and Fiji would play all thier games at home and the final held at Suncorp.

Looks like they will hold every 2nd world cup in a 'risky' location ( France, USA ) and the others in more bankable locations, eng and aust/nz
