I for one do believe a 22 team comp in the NRL would work.

Current 17 teams
team 18 Perth Pirates
Team 19 Northern Hunters - a PNG / Far north team QLD Based in Cairns
team 20 Adelaide
team 21 Wellington or NZ South Island - Pasifika team
team 22 Central Coast Bears

have a 21 round comp where every team plays each other once
no byes
mid season rep break where state of origin is played over a 3 week period
in this period have for example
Thursday night - WNRL State of Origin
Friday Night - NRL state of origin
Saturday double header Pacific nations cup - Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, PNG
Sunday Afternoon - World 9's where the fast pace closes off the weekend
teams from , UK , Europe , NZ & Indigenous Australia teams play
(week 1 group games)
(week 2 finals)
(week 3 grand final)

and NRLW?
Sunday 8pm? That'll be worse for attendances than Friday 6pm!
Fans hated Monday nights, thats why we ended up with Thursdays instead.

Why do like the good old days when footy games were played at the same time
(Around the grounds score updates where the best updates)
we need to remember time zones too & certain games can be played in regions/states maybe even a 3rd game on a Friday night if played in Perth for example

I actually think for pay tv it doesnt need to be stand alone slots for every game. end of day their money predominantly comes from subscriptions not how may people are watching any particular game. But again there was a lot of neagtivity when we used to have two friday games at same time and one was shown on delay depending on state. Id have the fox games on different channels so you could run two games at same time and cut out the crap time slots.

In an 11 game round (22 teams) it could be:
Thursday night 1x game fta
Friday 2 x 7.30pm games ptv
Sat 2x 4pm games ptv, 2 x 6pm games ptv, 1x 8pm game FTA
Sun 2 x 4pm games ptv 1 x 6pm game fta

This is probably at least 15-20 years in the future and who knows how Australia and the world will look like by then. Looking at how a 20 team comp will shakeout is near impossible with so little information and the timeframes potentially being so far away. It’s barely worth entertaining this discussion.

I know why we avoid playing in hotter months but at a certain point the question will need to be asked if the NRL and NRLW seasons can really completely overlap.

Just shows how strong we are that all of those expansion opportunities are realistically viable with a bit of effort. And that is without any additional teams in SEQ.
