Years ago there was actually a choice whether you watched a game with commentary or crowd noise or listening to the refs, lets go back to choice.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....you bring back a lot of good memories

IIRC, it was mostly the Saturday 5:30pm game that had that option, starting from when Foxtel Digital (with red button the remote) was introduced.

Fox did away with the commentary/crowd option when the Fox Sports logo changed in 2008, but there has been the rare game where the commentary/crowd option was used (e.g. Jarryd Hayne's first game for the Titans last year).

I remember me and a mate were hungover as all f**k one Saturday last year and laying around on the couches eating pizza watching footy when one game's commentary went silent for about 15mins. Both us zombies said "how good is no merkin talking shit over the footy?"

I'd love to be able to go back to when fox let you ditch commentary but keep ground/crowd noise.

Benny the ball wants the nrl to buy Ch 10.
FORMER rugby league star and wealthy Sydney businessman Benny Elias has called on the NRL to consider buying the struggling Channel Ten for $100m.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Elias will hold talks with influential NRL executives next week where he will push for the game’s independent commission to begin a feasibility study into buying the flagging network.

“Ten needs rugby league — I believe it would be an absolute lifesaver for them. This is a blue-chip sport and Channel Ten could attain the broadcast rights by purchasing the station,” Elias said.

“Let’s take on the AFL and be a leader in the business and sporting world.”
“A $51m investment would give rugby league the majority shareholding in Network TEN on today’s market value. It would be the greatest investment this game has achieved.
“Get the independent commission to earn their keep. All the billions of dollars they have been given over the years, the NRL own nothing. Nothing.”

The NRL preferred not to comment on Elias’ comments.

Elias is off his rocker. There is no way the NRL should or will buy into a television network like C.10.

Television stations as they presently stand are a dying, hence 10's problems. The game doesn't need to waste tens of millions of dollars on such a proposal.

I always thought Elias stuck his head too many scrums. This idea supports that.

Even James Packer saw the writing on the wall and sold of his media assets.

I initially thought it could be a good idea for nrl if they get it for a reasonable price. But the 2018-2022 tv deal would stop any real benefit from acquiring channel 10. There is a reason that channel 7,9 and 10 are dieing..... media landscape is changing. Internet will be as available as the tv networks by 2025. Advertising $$ are going online to Facebook, twitter and online streamers. That is where the nrl needs to invest. Hence the nrl media department is the go. I think there also needs to be input from Facebook and twitter as well. They did have online media love in the other day so hopefully something good comes of that.

Tonight they will show a replay of the 89 test between the Kiwis and the Aussies.

I'm pretty sure this time last year they showed about 3 classic test matches, 93, 99 and 13, leading into the game on Friday.

I actually enjoy The Second Year Syndrome. It is some light hearted comedy that revolves around Rugby League.

To some of you its like every show must be some hard hitting serious panel show
Not really. I just want to see a bit of variety in what they show so the content isn't just repeats of the same eg. NRL360 shown on repeat. There is plenty of original content they could source/use but it just seems to be an outlet to supply newsislimited 'journos' with an outlet to peddle their rubbish. Phil Rothfield on TV, seriously.

Not interested in hard hitting panel shows at all, but the same joke over and over isn't funny.

That des hasler and the mob bit last week was just woeful.

Why does Paul Kent need to know what and why Fifita wrote on his arm?
Still trying to squeeze every last bit of juice out of a dead story.
I was thinking the same thing. He wound himself up in knots over the other night and he is at it again. He works for an organisation that hacked the phones of murder victims yet he wants to come across as the gatekeeper of morality.
I used to like him but now he just grinds my gears.
