Apparently they have called a press conference today at 10am, no word on what its about. I guess we can either wait or wildly guess.

I like how this Management doesn't let things fly out of control with shit talk. They address things fast and whether its about SK or Luke. It will quashed fast so business can carry on as usual.

Probably SK extension...

Or, if we're going for wild speculation, SJ back on a 1-year deal...

Seems crazy to me to be extending SK after 1 good season when he wouldn’t be in the sights of any other clubs, we learnt the hard way with rushing into a Barrett extension after we made the 8

Barrett no disrespect isn't even on SK level (Despite nobody really rating him due to his Eels history) but let not forget he has very good coaching experience and been taught by the very best. SK also has the dressing room based on respect as he was 100% professional himself as a player wearing the same colors once upon a time ago.

Nothing crazy about this move if it means stability and the relationship with Players and Management is all good, clearly being on the same page as one another.

2018 was SK first year that you could really call the Warriors his team. SK is also the one reason why we got the best fitness coach Alex Corvo at our club and without that key signing we wouldn't have the fit boys we have now. What's even more freaky is they look even more fit and strong this year.

SK isn't as bad as people are saying. He has the backings of all the greats in terms of coaching and what strikes me the most about SK is his human element. We rarely get to see that side of him usually its his boring dribble evading speak when being interviewed. However he is pretty on to it away from the cameras.

Stability is key to success and the extension he will get soon will confirm the club hold him in high regard and especially the players. (SJ Excluded lol)

Just for me unless there are other offers in the pipeline I don’t see the rush in securing him so quickly and I don’t see any other head coaching jobs going for him

Only used Barrett as an example as he was signed on an extension based on 1 good campaign and that didn’t get back up the next season, things change so quickly in this game and Brad Arthur was another good example of that last season

It isn’t as absurd an extension though as it was when McFadden was extended after 3-4 games in charge

Agreed on the Cappy re-signing after 3-4 good games. We truly were a mess behind the scenes. These days it seems the Warriors are doing all the right things. It's a pretty cool feeling since it's been a long time since I have felt genuinely good about our season coming.

Would have liked to have seen him back it up again before renewing. He wouldn’t have been getting offers elsewhere so we had time up our sleeve.

The Warriors have re-signed coach Stephen Kearney to a new three-year deal, the club confirmed today.

Kearney, who is heading into his third season in charge after joining the Warriors ahead of the 2016 season, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at Mt Smart until the end of 2022.

The new deal leaves him in line to become one of the club's longest serving coaches in equaling former coach Ivan Cleary's six seasons at the helm (2006 – 2011).

Negotiations between both parties began midway through last season in which Kearney steered the Warriors to their first finals appearance since 2011.

"When I first came back to the club, I was honoured to be given the opportunity to help the club move forward and improve," Kearney said.

"I'm pleased to have my future sorted out with this new contract and to know I'll be with the club for a few more years.

"We made progress last season but, to be honest, the focus for me is always what's next for us and that's preparing for this week's trial against Wests Tigers in Whangarei."

Following last Friday night's solid 12-6 NRL trial win over Melbourne, his re-signing gives the club stability ahead of the season start and Saturday's second and final trial against Wests Tigers in Whangarei.

"Securing Stephen for another three years is a huge boost for us as we prepare to begin our 25th season in the competition," said Warriors CEO Cameron George.

More to come...

Totally agree on the wait for another year part. There was no rush at all to secure him. Then I was thinking. Who would be our next coach in 2020? I am unsure on the up and coming good coaches. The only established coaches with a proven record are mostly taken (Also unsure who is available in 2020)

I thought about Corvo and the support staff that came here because of SK influence. Team is fit and strong as ever. Players seem to want to play for one another. That is a lot of pluses to have on securing a good long deal. It was not a trigger-happy decision as the Cappy re-signing pointed out by Beavers.

It wasn't trigger happy, but from the outside I find it strange TBH - he is under contract, and this is a coach who has had 1 moderately good year as a first grade coach... one... nobody was going to steal him from us, so I personally don't see the rush...

Yes, sure, he has his team now etc etc... but everyone has an excuse for poor performances...

Hope it works out, but I'm not buying him as a head coach yet

Don't hate it, don't love it. It was the last year of his contract so a decision had to be made either way and if they already knew this was the route they wanted to go down, it makes sense to sort it out pre season rather than dragging it on through the year.

Once these 3 years are up King Stacey might be ready to take the reigns

Realistically it’s a sensible move. You don’t want to be halfway through your coaches last year without a contract (remember when we did that with Ivan?) and if the wheels fall off he’ll get the arse anyway, coaches always do.

Bingo, contracts mean little, other than the club having to pay him out to move him on.
It would be interesting if there is a wooden spoon clause in the contract.

It's looking really good the way things are being done on and off the field. What will it take for Kearney to get the JJ love? Besides winning our maiden premiership of course.

Kearney showed me he is a first grade coach last year. Not just for making the finals since 2011. We have improved in our fitness, defense and attitude. I love our attitude more than anything. I remember when we lost a game last year the camera zoomed up on the Warrior players reactions. RTS was filthy like a true champion after a loss. I saw that in all the whole team especially the young guns. They showed they really care about one another. That goes a long way in anything in life and Rugby League is no exception. Our defense and handling errors were really good thanks to Kearney's blueprint (Process) Also I think we had the best completion rate of 2018 or one the highest. Once we get that new combination and attack singing. Could be another good season.
